    Oh dear.

I'm not sure the Vego's would be happy with that idea. They hate us for killing them now, and we actually utilise them for a useful purpose.
From what I remember meat animals aren't bred for longevity. So if you gave one each to every new veggo to eat their grass back yards they would all be heartbroken as they die an early death. Certainly meat chooks are not recommended to be kept alive for more than a couple of months as they have heart attacks and collapse from leg failure. Useful productive farm animals like milking cows and egg laying chooks are quite different from what the supermarket chains kill for us.

    Hi all, happy Sunday,
I find the whole vego V human discussion to be all together droll. The issue here is that vego's usually have an axe to grind or barrow to push or a sense of righteousness not found in omnimvores.
Instead, we should all agree to not give one hoot about what another human is eating. I'll eat dirt if I want too! I promise not to criticise your eating habits if you don't critisise mine.
BTW, this applies to my religion, choice of clothes, belief in nuclear fuels and attitude to same sex unions. I really don't care what others think and thank them to have the same courtesy for me.
Wasn't there a song some years ago about baby seal eyes....ahhh here it is ..Denis Leary - Asshole Lyrics...the swear filter will prob censure the link (as it should) but I don't know how to change the link name.

    Come the revolution........

given that info, looks like I'm going to have to add vegetarians to the list.

Vegetatrains are like Adgies, poofters and religious nuts. They can do what the hell they want so long as they do it way the hell away from me.

We used to own a panel shop ... had a REALLY old old beater who used to do lead wipes ... wow! Until you've seen it done you don't appreciate what old style trades people were capable of doing. He had his tool box of all different hammers and dolly's and he was a bloody ledgend to watch him work ..... all the young beaters used to stand around in awe.

... slightly removed, I worked with a really old shippie, refurbishing a timber boat many years ago ... and as you know, boats are anything but square. This guy would eye the job, hold his thumb up, twist it left or right, grab a lumb of timber, walk to the bandsaw, cut it up and it would fit perfectly !!

These are skills that people no longer posess today

I suppose the environment humans live in determines to a certain extent their diet, some don't have the luxury of choice [ hence my tongue in cheek reference to the Andes' plane crash cannibals ] Major Gen. Michael Jeffrey [retired] has warned future global conflicts would be based on food @ water..

In the Courier Mail this morning there is a report foreign countries are buying Australian farm land, not for mineral use, but to shore up food supplies as the world's population soars, and agricultural land shrinks.. Overseas interests have spent $ 12 billion during the past 4 years buying rural land @ food supply chains. A UN report on the food security crises , released in Jan. , says the world will need at least 50% more food by 2030. There are already more than 900 million people going hungry, and over the next 40 years, the global population is expected to rise from 7 billion to 9 billion.

All this makes the discussion about vegie or meat eaters seem a little , well," lucy in the sky with diamonds" stuff. I'm going to have 2 bob each way, steak AND vegies ., Bob. [ definitely do not want soylent green, ]
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I trolled through a few post and you are all missing the point. The main reason the planet is struggling is there are just to many humans. Come the revolution I plan to be in charge and will conduct a cull. Be nice to me or else. he he

Do you want a definition for eugenics too?

It is the theory Hitler had adopted and what some here seem to be advocating.

that being said, as a young person in Western Australia I am still very angry at the way much of our virgin bush was cleared to make way for the crops and agricultural land.

money makes the world go round sadly

but here's a fun fact for you...

changing your diet can have the greatest affect on your carbon/environmental impact on our beautiful planet! have you considered becoming a vegan/vegetarian?
And your worried about clearing land but you think becoming a Vegan or Vego does'nt add to this?

    You don't seem to understand,

Coming from a beef farmer from way back, eat beef, it's good for you, it's what man was made to do and it's not as harmful to the environment as burning off, clearing, lazer levelling and irrigating land for Vego's food production and it can be done very locally so very low carbon foot print on manufacture and transport.

Yes Cattle fart but so do Vegetarians, Methane is a bad gas in the environment but then again cow poo is good, so good that Vego's use it on their gardens.

But if we're talking about bad, one of my pet hates is the thousands of tonnes of dirty disgusting exhaust from those Hippocratic ego worriers ships Greenpeace etc.

How many barrels of oil does it take to fill the rainbow worrier, how many acres of WA wilderness does it take to feed all the Vego's in Oz and how far do you have to transport the veg to feed your habit, this all has a carbon foot print too and is usually a lot more than farming cattle, Sheep or Pigs in Australia.

If we can't eat beef, lamb or pig etc then let's eat more Kangaroo, Venison, horse, goat and Rabbit, all damage the environment and are either a pest or in unsustainable numbers but this is not acceptable either for some reason.

Should we let the cattle run wild like in the past or should all the cattle be made extinct or just enough kept so you can have your leather, shoes, jacket, bags and seats in you car or lounge room and we throw away the meat because that is bad.

A lot of environmentalists, Vegetarians and other extremists need to think about the bigger picture.

In most cases, the best thing they can do for the environment is to start at home, take themselves off the grid, sell their car, live in a cave with no power or water, eat berries and leaves that grow naturally without farming, don't wear any clothes as that would require either manufacturing something or killing an animal, don't have any sort of heating as fire is bad and causes damage to our eco system.

If they start there then they will prove that it's possible and others may follow but as for now I'm waiting to see if one person can really change the world.

If any of you are worried about what's happening with the environment then look back to the 50's, 60's and 70's to see what they did back then and integrate some of it into your life, walking to shops and shopping locally with our own bag and a retro shopping trolley that my grand mother used for the same thing for decades is something that we do regularly, and we cook most of our own food.

We're not all that environmentally friendly but there are heaps of things we all can do and every little bit would help not so much help the environment but will help our fitness levels (mine is shocking), our local business owners like butchers, green grocers etc and also helps connect you to your community which then helps give the younger generation respect for their community which I think is far more important than the environmental moot point.

No offence intended but I take offence to being told I should become a Vego.

Despite what PETA and the vego extremists want us to do, we have to keep being carnivores otherwise where will we get the leather for our Land Rover seats and leather shoes?

I'm not wearing hemp shoes for no one!
