Thread: Why do Toyota owners bag LandRovers ?

actually i was driving the putty road the other day and there was a fairly decent hill and there was a disco tdi in front of me i hit the hill witha bit more speed so i was going to over take but then he kept his revs the same and i did not so he won that battle btw i was driving a 2.7l petrol hilux

I was at a BBQ and they were have a argument about Nissan and Toyotas as half had one and the other half had the other.

After a while of listen this is I thought I would mention I have two defenders. ( I had turned up in my company car and did not know the people there )

They all look at me and said well you can't really compare a defender against a patrol or land curser as the Defender is the last real off road you can buy.
I was shocked and nearly fell over on the spot , that they all agreed the defender out of the dealership was hands down was better than all their trucks.

I would have a Puma in a flash if they would just put an auto box in it.

Not rocket science really. Long travel suspension, live axles and perhaps a bit of TC for good measure is a pretty good combination.
Land Rover and Jeep are the only makers of real off road station wagons that I can think of (don't know about Mitsubishi's suspension set up). Unfortunately the big two just make shopping trolleys now.

I have no idea why absolutely crap music has become the norm with off road videos.

Ivé never owned a 4x4 with an auto before and I think that an autoed Puma would be a very nice and relaxing for an all day long tourer. Auto with a cruise control across the Plenty or Tanami or even up the Stuart would be nice I think in my dotage.
Its got nothing to do with hardcore play time, I have my 92 manual Disco for that and my daily drive.
You've heard the song : Ivé been almost everywhere man.
I'm beginning to think that the auto would be a nice way to carry on.
But they wont, so I guess I will never own a new Defender, which is still the best looking fourby ever built.

With a 4BD1T in a 110/130 you hardly ever need to change gears, so works much the same as a slushbox

I can see the merits of an auto when you would otherwise need to change gears frequently (city etc) but if your touring all day the number of gear changes aren't massive, hence no real need.

As for setting the cruise on the Tanami or Plenty, good lick with that. I've driven both those roads on more than one occasion and it ain't cruise control territory!

Now, as for the merits of cruise / no-cruise... Cruise every time. I love it on the TD5 110.
