I was stuffed around by a company in getting one of the 101's delivered from not far from Brisbane to Melbourne. They upped the price from $1300 to over $2000 after I had paid the $1300.
In the end I used Door to Door. I've used them five times now with no complaints.
Reasonably priced for the service as well.

Most car carriers will not transport vehicles with any more gear than the car was delivered with new, I've known one crowd carry on because a windscreen sunshade was left in a car.
Call Barron River Towing, they're Cairns agents for a number of car carriers. A better option may be to find an owner driver with a flat top or curtain sider, Townsville would be a better centre for backloading than Cairns. Phone BP Cluden and Bohles Little Acre and ask them to put a notice on the drivers' board.

Ceva will carry it IF its adequately secured, proves no risk to the operator or the vehicle AND you sign off on a waiver exempting them from responsability of loss, damage caused to or by the internally stowed goods.

I don't know how many vehicles you have but if the will all fit on one truck I can organize it for you at whatever it costs me, should be fairly cheap. pm me or text me on 0404055083. Text before you call, i'm usually under a truck and won't answer.

    Cheers.

A few of us booked with a car freight company to have our 110's trucked back from Cairns to Melbourne, but after having our booking for the job in place for a couple of months, they have doubled the price on us. Their excuse is, the guy who quoted us was new and didn't allow for the 'over height' of the vehicles which basically takes up two spaces on the truck. Original price was $1000 per car, now $2040 per car.
The frustrating part of this is, right from my first contact with them I made it VERY clear the cars are over the 2.1m in height which is the standard max height they work to, and that the cars would be fully loaded with camping gear etc. They didn't have a problem with either of these points at first, especially as they allowed plenty of time to spread the vehicles over more than one truck.

Anyway, they are sticking firm to their revised price, so I'm shopping around for an alternative.

Any suggestions for who to try would be appreciated.

There's no naming and shaming on the forum, so I haven't given the name of the company here........which starts with S

Murray, transport companies are run by tinkers absoloute cowboys.
101 from brissy to the pilbara 3700 then a call to say that quarantine on the westralian border had stop the shipment for a steam clean which was blatantly bovine excrement, (i phoned and checked with quarantine dept ag)
then the other story was that the guy who quoted me had just started with the company and had since been sacked and they needed another $700 off me, see any similarities?
ring the ACCc they will tell you a contract is a contract.
oh and in the end they shipped it two hours from the delivery address and just left it for me to get transported back myself ...no extra ransom ever got paid

SMB transport (car specialists) moved a skyline for a friend from Sydney to Townsville or cairns for under $1000-, and that was their loaded direction. Return trips (back loading) should be cheaper still.
