Geez I'd like to hear more on this Scouse. Without bagging Shannon's, could you give us a rough idea of why you are changing?

Fine print? Moved goal posts? Upped premiums?

Customer service, care factor, contactability, knowledge of what do do when the **** hits the fan (everyone I spoke to had a different view on the claim/repair process), claim dragging on for more than 5 months now......

I went through the insurance process a while ago and ended up with Shannons.

    Low Kilometer Insurance for Defender

Still cannot understand why a $12K insurance on limited Kms costs nearly the same as a $47K car on high usage. Same address, same person, both cars garaged. Maybe the daily driver insurance sector is much, much more competitive......

Shannons will do wreck retention on vehicles under 35 years old, but there is an extra premium, (about $10 - $15 IIRC) I have it on my 78 model Game.

Yes I agree, my Defender is only occaisional use too. But it was cheaper to insure it as agreed value daily driver with RACQ, than Shannons limited use. At least it's if I ever do have to drive it daily.

That has never been the advice I have received from Shannons.

If you have wreck retention without cost on your policy - then good luck.

I have enquired about that since 2009 (car then 32yo) each year and always knocked back until this year with the 101 turning 35. I just rang them and they confirmed no free wreck retention for vehicles under 35 so there is something that would seem different about about your vehicle. Maybe they consider they would not get anything for a wrecked Game so gave it to you.

    Cheers

    Garry

PS - I love Games and nearly bought one when they were new and used to go to Landie dealers to check them out - bought an old series 1 instead and painted it up like a Game.

The problem I had was the maximum agreed value from both RACV & RACV classic (NRMA) was too low.
Shannons & RACV & NRMA all denied access to the wreck if the vehicle was under 35 years old. Someone else in the industry told me that if you hassle them they will give you a price for the buyback but you have to be persistent.

    Hi

From recent experience I can recommend lumley special vehicles when the poo hits the fan and you have to make a claim. They were a pleasure to deal with when my soft dash classic rangie was written off with an electrical fire at the beginning of the year. I can't comment about wreck retention as I did not have it on my policy but if I had been interested I could have gone to the auction and bid on it.

In total it was a few phone calls and a couple of emails and within a month it was all settled. I had more hassle with the wa transport dept getting the last $60 of the registration back!

So you are the reason my policy with them went up 20% this year - they said they had to raise all policy premiums due to an old over insured Rangie having bit the dust earlier in the year - well not they didn't just a bit of exaggeration there but they did say over the past two years they had a lot of claims so premiums had to rise.
