As for tossers Tombie coming from a guy who posted "Giving in my 2 weeks notice" a few months back, leaves and now back. Mate take the mirrors out of your house.
Few months? Mate, I was gone over half a year to recompose...
And apart from the mirror the wife uses in the bathroom there are none - I'm no oil painting

Your comments in THIS THREAD are nothing more than a TROLL... Any time spent reading ANY vehicle forum will highlight a list of woes longer than your arm.

10 seconds searching online alone will find photos of a guy with 2 "lemon" Yota traybacks...

Anyone driving a Patrol of recent vintage lives in perpetual fear of the pin falling from the grenade under the bonnet. ECU failures, Overfuelling issues, overheating on hills on hot days.

HiLux blowing steering racks, cracking or bending chassis, rattling welds apart, dropping tie rods, failing centre bearings in tailshafts, dashs rattling in under 20,000km. 3 engines in 1 vehicle in less than 100,000km.

V8 Brusiers with failed wheel bearings, cracked engine bay battery tray mounts, wheel tracks that arent in line, excessive oil consumption and blowby, rattles everywhere, multiple motor replacements under warranty, rear diffs replaced (after 6-8 week delivery times for parts)

It only takes 30 minutes standing at "The crossroads of Australia" to show that there are vehicles of all makes on traybacks getting a ride to a repairer...

To complain about the maintenance requirements on a 10 yr old vehicle that was used offroad is just laughable...

May your Vanilla 4wd serve you well

i can see where mightyjosh is coming from my guess is he just forgot about that alot of peopel would be posting about problems because they need help. if that was the case i think it is understandable for you to have thought what you did and forgivable. it would be interesting to see what the stats are on each brand and model to see which is more reliable/cheaper to fix etc

Jeez Josh - just looked at the list you posted about your Disco that Tombie dug up - wow - did you really give it up because of those faults? As Tombie mentioned - most of those are service items in a vehicle that old, be it a Landy, Tojo or anything else. Most of that list could be fixed in a weekend with fairly low outlay - and you could run the spanners over the rest of the car while you were at it to make sure nothing else needed doing.

I just don't buy your view on all this - saying that Landys still have inherent reliability issues is just spewing out the same old garbage perpetuated by all sheep - I mean people... - that drive Toyotas.

My old Rangie is truly one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever come across - with good maintenance, it has served our family for nearly 20 years without EVER leaving anyone stranded, and apart from the known trannie issue with my newer one (which is now fixed) that is pretty dame bullet proof too - one of the most reliable engines ever built - won 'Engine of the year' on multiple occasions. And the Series III - lets face it - is a giant meccano set and only needs a few spanners and some fencing wire to keep it going almost indefinately.

At the end of the day, ALL vehicles suffer issues, that is just the nature of things. We choose to own and love our Landys, you say you were turned off by actually having to work on your car, but in reality I would say that your mates gave you a ribbing about owning it, so you jumped on the band wagon and bought the Toyota. It is lambing season after all... Baaaa.

When I cop anything from my mates about mine, I smile and tell them that they would all love to own one - and some of them have even admitted I may be right.

I'll pick Land Rover - like many others time and again, as they have soul, character and are damn good off road which is where it counts - You can't deny that...

    Cheers - Gav

I have had heaps of Landys over the years.
My first cars were Fords with grunt.
My D2 is the best vehicle I have ever owned, with a bit of aftermarket tweeking, its a BEAST.It has NEVER let me down, lots of learn it and fix it issues.I would only reccomend owning one to those that can get their head around their vehicle and do their own mechanicals, there are so many "I WONT TOUCH A LANDY" spanner hands out there.
I LOVE MY BEAST,been the best car I have owned.Im pretty sure there will be tears shed when BlackBetty moves on
If a work deal can be worked I may be returning to the Blue Oval.

And this from a Happy Toyota owner...
    22nd August 2012
I Have a new 2012 LC200 GXL, and after having 4 Prado’s I purchased it because it was the big brother of the Prado and was a natural upgrade for me and heading north form Tasmania was supposed to be the “King Off The Road”
Well what a mistake, This car filled up with so much dust it was crazy, dust in vents, dust in jacks, dust inside every door panel an absolute joke..
Then in a creek crossing only 650mm deep (wading depth of 200 series form Toyota is 700mm) water ****ed in all doors wetting carpets and obviously electrical.
After every warning light coming on and one problem after another with electrical, the car not starting properly, Car heater not working, dust still everywhere making the car look 20 yrs old I had enough and have taken to a Toyota Dealers in NSW on my way home to tassie to get them to look at.
    I asked three simple questions
    1) How dis dust and water get in?
    2) What have to you done to rectify the problem and fix any damage done from this?
    3) Can you guarantee this will not happen again..
This is the answer I get
“Our Technical Field Manager (T.F.M) from Toyota Motor Corp. Australia (TMCA) has been out this morning and taken more photos and carried out further tests on your vehicle. He is going to submit a final report to his manager who is currently on sick leave and then await a response from him. In our TFM’s opinion the water and dust ingress is subject to a number of environmental and vehicle usage factors and in this case is beyond Toyota’s control. Therefore in his opinion TMCA will not be able to assist with the rectification of water and dust ingress.”

This car was driven on gravel roads and in compliance with the running conditions of Toyota warranty guidelines.. absolutely disgusted with this reply and insistent on taking this further I asked for a report as to why..
This was seven weeks ago and still nothing except a 100K Boat anchor..
The Dealership in Tasmania has been very good to date and will be looking at it next week again to see if they can assist but as for Toyota Customer experience what a Joke..
    Oh What a Feeling!!

Yes , two people I know of here in NZ with 70 series V8 diesels, one has had $20000.00 of warranty work and another $25000.00 and still the V8 sucks oil in both cases. Plus forestry gangs with V8s blowing at 60000ks( going away from Toyotas now plus reports of water in common rail problems not covered by Toymota (even though it has only one small fuel filter)
My friends had a lexus (most reliable car ever??)it crapped out but there are no forums for them!!!
