    Mower just died.

All. I was mowing my weeds the other day and the old girl just stopped. No explosions nothing spectacular it just conked out. Checked the usual suspects, spark, ok. Fuel, ok (plug was damp with fuel) so I pulled the carbie off and cleaned it out. Put everything back together still no go. Tipped the thing on the side to have a look and heard a gurgling sound, it was engine oil coming out the carbie. May be the valve? Terminal? It is a Briggs and Stratton series 200 4 stroke. It is 20 odd years old any ideas??
    Regards

Did you check if any compression when you had the plug out? maybe a holed piston and the crank oil is getting through the hole and then through an open inlet valve to the carb.

If you know the complete model number you should be able to get a schematic of the motor to assist in troubleshooting. Might have to whip the head off.

Not a mower mechanic, mate. But that mower is 20 years old, it has done stirling service, I would suggest a decent burial (with honors) and a trip to Bunnings down at Glendale for a new one!!!

Its all a conspiracy! - a dastardly plot called "Planned Obsolescence" forcing you into buying a new one instead of fixing the old....

Nooooooo !!! Buy it at Bunnings and you'll get about 4yrs out of it and you'll be looking for another one .... They don't last 20yrs anymore.

Robbo .. . If your interested, PM me, I sell Honda mowers . .. They DO last 20+ years. Can cut you a deal.

... And Happy Birthday Ausfree !

    1. The crank case breather runs into the carby intake elbow, so of course if you tip it the wrong way oil comes out!
    2. The carby has a thin rubber diaphragm that's also the fuel pump (operates via crank case vacuum fluctuations) Pull the carby apart and check this diaphragm.
    3. Personally I'm so glad my Briggs went to mower heaven, since the Honda motor went on I've never had any problems at all. Honda small engine technology rocks.

wifes push mower stopped one day, i had a quick look, didn't have time to fiddle with it to get it going. Came home to a new mower one day.
Parked my Greenfield for winter (grass stops growing), come spring wife went to start it and couldn't, i came home to a new zero turn.
same goes with the brushcutter, log splitter etc...
Fair enough as she does all the yard/wood duties. happy wife happy life
