Just reminded myself, you know how from Day 1 in the Trade we are taught about moisture & cleanliness on equipment being assembled etc.

Well, years ago, about 1978 while in Singas I saw two blokes overhauling a 6D (?) on the footpath in front of their shopfront. They had it all stripped down as components & were fitting it all back together. I mentioned this in passing to the UK Carrier GM ,(when we got there) & he said something about it would probably run for years He has spent some carrier Design time in Singas previously.



It just looked so very odd. So much for having a Special Air Cond room for this work as the books said. Oh yes, I think they were wearing Thongs which looked a bit out of place those normally being worn around the waist & crotch not on the feet.. :Rolling:

That is the trouble with using the non-diaphragm cylinder valve. Probably are illegal, although the crowd I worked for used one but never had this problem. Maybe we were just lucky. Even if it was shut off tight, the brass needle valve could still be leaking through the worn tapered seat & depends how long the Mech. was gone for & not monitoring his/her gauges. Was it left on overnight? Was the cylinder valve shut? Who knows.?????? There really is no other explanation, it was over pressure that did it.

As I recall a Nitrogen Cylinder can be a 1,000psig or more on a hot day & as it looks like a Cooling Only system it may have been up north somewhere, so?


Wouldn't like to have been looking at it when it went. A definite change of Jocks would have been necessary.

Put my work clothes on for the first time today after 3 weeks.

Week into our holiday, out at Windorah,relaxing camped at Cooper ck,bloody nice spot,get the call my Mother had a stroke.
Unfortunately that was the end of her.She was 86 so not a bad innings.
Been sorting out stuff since we got back,13 hour drive straight through, one stop at Maccas and fuel at Roma.

I have 3 brothers so we are all in it, and get on reasonably well so all is going reasonably smoothly so far.

Been through this 3 times before, hopefully never again.
