In a variation of the 'older I get, the faster I was' process.

Caught up with a cousin a few days ago after about 15years.
He asked me if I still played the guitar, I said I can still handle a few cords but it was no core talent.
He looked at me strange and said: 'but you were really good, I remember when.........'

I don't know which of us has been taking the drugs, but one of us is in a world of fantasy

So the older I get, the more talented I was.

Yeah ok he's a bass guitarist but you can't fault his skill's yo.
Bootsy Collins got his power from the funk, and then George Clinton kicked over the edge of the mothership.....
Mighty Boosh reference for those in the know

Josh Homme is kind of a dick, but he's a funny one.
He's also a mean guitar player
Love the video clip for "No One Knows" with the deer

OK everyone, I forgive you for getting all your selections wrong. There is no one 'greatest', each genre has their own luminaries.

You might want to consider this fellow:

Geoff Achison does Whipping Post - LIVE - YouTube

An Aussie, an unbelievable talent, and almost unknown here.

    You're welcome.

    Cheers,

    Adam

    I do.
This, ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, and others (Judo) is why David Gilmour is firmly at the No. 1 position IMHO

I reckon that Gilmore is a wonderful song writer and a guitarist with impeccable taste, but technically he is just barely adequate. There are guys in garage bands all over Australia that could mimic his solo's perfectly because they are not difficult to play at all. Don't get me wrong, he is one of my favourite artists....and I mean artist in the truest sense of the word because he makes fantasic sound from limited technical ability. I don't know if that makes him a great guitarist though. Thanks for the link, very good.

    Greatest Guitarists of all time

No surprises here but my vote for Hendrix
    I am a guitarist of 26 years
    Mostly acoustic these days.
I'll put a few links up of some good ones in the acoustic sphere
But candy rat records has some of the best modern acoustic players.
    Andrew
