Great choices Justin, One of my favourite places used to be the Gregory River up near Gregory Downs not far from Riversleigh, Lawn Hill and Adels Grove. Beautiful rugged country with crystal clear running water and in those days prolific numbers of barra and sooty grunter. I made a track with my old S2A trayback into a stretch of the river that they now call "the knobbies" back in about 1974. Was a great place to take the family camping and fishing, lots of Leichhardt fig trees along the banks with great shade all day, shallows and rapids where the kids could swim and play and deep holes in between where you could fish. Numerous rock wallabies in the hills. Used to be nice and quiet back then. And you could always do a run into the pub at Gregory if you wanted some excitement.. The O'Shannassy is a tributory of the Gregory and is spring fed from Artesian water where its headwaters are near Camooweal. Back in those days the road from Camooweal went through Thorntonia Station and was bulldust and rocky ridges. Lucky I had a rover back then.

For me its a no brainer, nw coast of tassie (home), close second would be down around the huon in southern tas coming in a very close third would be the kimberly. Only been here 3 weeks and it sorta grows on ya real quick. I condsider that I am fairly well traveled in aus but as yet only beem as high as Gladstone on the easten side then draw a line to the lambart centre and then just north of broome and thats about it, so a far few more place to see. But for me its not so much the place but the company I am with (or even solo) and the right headspace at the given time. I can remberber sitting under a tree in a len beadell camp and lost 4 hrs, peaceful and in deep thought, not a real special place as far as pretty but an awesome place to sit
    cheers

Got to agree... and as it's only 100km from me it's an easy day trip if I feel like it

Snow camping up under Mt Kosi is special, but this place, Seamans Hut is a favorite place, especially when things get nasty !!

The shot below was after a very interesting night, we had skied out of Thredbo and weather turned foul so we elected to stay at the hut.

It was a good decision as you can see from the icicles that it was blowing hard, not pleasant in t tent, but fun with a stove going and the windows rattling !

Actually anywhere in the High Country, winter or summer is where I really love to be.
