First thing this morning our local fire siren sounded, it`s a air raid type siren and boy is it loud. Got on the computer only to find the CFA web page was struggling to cope. Later we found out it was only a minor incident. Not the best way to start a hot day though. Most of my family is in Tas I hope they are well.

BoM shows 54.9 @ 4:22 and 49.9 @ 4:23 obviously as the fire passed through, interesting to note the peak in wind speed as fire generated winds came along as well, and the drop in humidity. All closely inter related

Certainly was due to that Martyn, Obs centre isn't far enough away from township area to not be effected. What a terrible day, it is a beautiful little town. I have several people down there that I know, hopefully I can get hold of them today, and that their properties/ businesses weren't involved. just got a TXT from a good friend who is a TFS volunteer, he has just returned home to his family after 40 odd hours out spot fire patrolling and assisting brigades. Good on you Scotty and all you TFS boys and girls!

A nice cool breeze blowing through the house this morning, the Mercury under the front east facing verandah hit 45 yesterday afternoon.

I found that the old mercury thermometer seems to be more accurate than the 3 or so electronic units we have had over the years and it sure felt like 45 lol

So I spent the day keeping troughs full of water and clean as well as watering the back of the AC unit in the lounge to help it disperse the heat it was sucking out of the house.

    No humidity felt yesterday either.

At least 100 properties have been destroyed as bushfires rage out of control in Tasmania and thousands of people are left stranded.

Towns on the devastated Tasman Peninsular in the state's south-east are cut off and only accessibly via sea.

I hope that there are no members of the forum trapped in Port Arthur together with 700 tourist and other thousands of people.

Not long ago an emergency warning have been issued for Bicheno .

Are your friends OK? Have you the chance to contact them?
They are doing very tough up there, looks like that already 12 houses have been lost.
    Quote from the late news:

The Tasmania Fire Service says the bushfire causing most concern is just south of Bicheno.
A short time ago an emergency warning was issued for the area and it is feared 12 properties may have already been lost.

Thanks for the thoughts. Yes they're fine. The fire went West & Sth of them. Funnily enough, my mate worked in Bundy for a lot of years & owned a rental property at Moore Park. We used to fish Littabella & Rules quite a bit. Hope all is OK down there
    Cheers

Yes JC so true.Nothing in the books tell how bad these fires can be.I was in NSW in Jan 1994 and to be truthful they scared the living daylights out of me.I hope all your friends who are directly involved come out ok...Nature is a beast ,at times, isn't it.
