Stay safe Chucky, and all down there. It's either floods or fires, but whatever happens, we seem to have a way of coping, and looking after our mates. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    It was a bad night

Source: More homes destroyed as fires downgraded - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Today morning I cannot see Mt Wellington because the smoke for the fires in the Richmond area and down south east.

It appears that the big fires are under control now with little or no wind.

Just finally got through to one of them, he is currently on his boat out in the channel, after evacuating his home, packed the 110 and trailer with all their possessions and took off to Dunalley, where the boat is moored. After the fire reached Dunalley, he got the 110 out onto the jetty away from the fires, and cast off.

He had to sit there and watch the town burn. He and his family are OK, but shocked. They are hanging around seeing if they can lend assistance in the next few days, they may even be allowed home shortly. The fire came within 30 metres or so of their home, but it was spared. It is a fair way out of Dunalley luckily but his business is down on the waterfront.

And 'Fireman Scott' has just got home after another 24hours down on the peninsula. Hang in there All you TFS guys and girls you're doing a great job!!!

I hope the idiot was charged as all fires in those conditions go from small to major in a matter of seconds ,mainly due to a bit of wind and flying embers. In NSW in Jan 1994 i saw two jump the F3 and the Hawksbury River in a flash. All we could do was to stand there with our mouths open then try and get to the other sides in a hurry.I feel for the people down there who have been effected.Even to the initiated it is horrendous.

Not long got home. Worked Friday morning, then we had a grass fire (Cressy) here that thankfully was sorted fairly quickly. Whilst coming home I got a phone call from mum stressed about the fires (she lives at Forcett).

So I swung the old girl around and went straight down there. Arrived just before 8pm and it was going well. He house was under ash and minor ember attack for the better part of 24 hours.

I lived in Primrose Sands from 1993 to 2000, and it was the first fire brigade I was ever part of. I've also got family that live throughout these areas. Thankfully we've been lucky and saved all of our houses, but a lot of our friends haven't been as lucky.

Wind changes were the biggest problem. Each time we thought we had a handle on it and started to (slightly) relax the bloody wind would swing and bite us in the ass hard.

I've been involved in the Sydney, Canberra, Vic fires (and numerous others) over the years - and this was no different. Absolutely nothing we could do in a lot of circumstances.

The boys were trapped (and girls) in areas so they couldn't be relieved. A lot of them ended up pulling huge shifts (18-30 hours) because they had no choice - they were the only ones there.

My uncles house was saved because they rowed across the Carlton river and got to it that way. There was no other way into the area.

I was looking after 3 properties at one stage with absolutely nothing but a uniform. We are lucky that most property owners have portable pumps and are smart enough to keep their places in good order. Without that there would've been more devastation.

In regards to the other fires - we are hoping that the weather may finally go in our favour. But no promises there.

    Interlaken is going well.

Bicheno is touch and go, as is Buckland and Lake Repulse.

There is still nearly 40 active fires right now. NSW have sent us 70 firefighters which will hopefully give some people a break, although I suspect that no-one wants to take a shift off as everyone knows people that have been affected. This one is real personal for a lot of firies.

Unfortunately I think that there's a couple of members that have lost their own houses. That will most likely be confirmed tomorrow, but there's nothing worse. I know we will get right behind them and give them all the support we can.

    Now for work tomorrow.........

    Cheers
    Chris

There are rumors that there are 100 people missing! Do you have any news about it?
