Hi All
Shonky do ex military land rover fire tenders count
Regards Mark
I was watching the news a week or two ago when we had the bad fires down this way, and a some footage flashed across the screen of an ancient Mercedes truck belonging to Lake Albert (Wagga) RFS, still doing what it has no doubt done for decades.
It got me thinking about all the different ages, types and makes of fire trucks used around the place, and how much some things have changed yet in principle remain very much the same.
I know we have a few fireys on here. What has your brigade got? Historical pics are always good fun too!
I think we can all agree that we could use some more positive discussion on the topic of fires given recent events.
To those hard at work today, stay safe and bravo.![]()

Now more than ever I wish I still had the pics of my S111. On the farm we used it as a fire tender and a spray unit.
As a fire unit, come tree watering unit too, it had an old Kero Tank hard up against the cab, and the pump behind that,, not much room for feet.
And then when we sprayed for Patto, I bolted a boom spray unit to the bull bar.
Worked a treat, although when the boom was on, I got some strange looks around town. Funny though, a couple of years after that started, a coupe of guys bought the Toyota utes and set them up that way for business.
I have very fond memories of going around the mountains in a Blitz fire truck from when it was called the Blue Mountains Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade. Its the one that is in the Penrith Fire Museum now.
