Rocked up to Vern's as of five minutes ago - managed not to have any more incidents on the way back, or accidentally back into his wife's shiny new Amarok for that matter. Thanks of course, to DeanoH Roadside Assist, who roared up behind me in the Oka, sporting a grin and a couple of trailer wheels. In hindsight a bit ****ed that the trailer didn't have a spare - my own fault for not checking I suppose. Was a slow ride home, but probably just as well - was hard enough to control the blowout as it was, was lucky that there was no-one either side of me because I covered all thee lanes.....

Beginning to feel like my life's turned into the AULRO version of "Where's Waldo??"

Good to hear you made it back safe and sound. It was a bit of an intense read let alone going through it first hand .

Fun aye! Have an incident free and safe trip home.

    Kind Regards

I think I have missed a gap in the saga somewhere...

The Deefer died in Alice. Lots of assistance, thwarted by Aussie Post. Mad Irishman and travelling companion travel to Verns place in a camper and Deefer heads out of Alice towards Darwin.

Mad Irishman gets an Isuzu ready for transplant (when the Deefer arrives at Verns).

And now Deefer is on a trailer with Mike doing a blowout quick-step. Rescued by Deano and finally arrives at Verns.

How did it get from Alice to the trailer? I can't find that episode...

Come on, go back and re read the book (or will be one some day). It left Alice on a truck via Dawin to Melbourne. There you go, make sense now.
    Cheers, David.

I think the guys involved should print it all out and sent it off to a production company.

If these TV stations can shown "bomb patrol" or Rat bastards. Then this story will be a top rater. A Irishman in central oz stranded with no help. Mystery surrounds the death of the only person around to help him. He finally gets reunited with his poor broken means of transport. after several thousand km's across the baron outback On the way to bringing back to life his trusty steed he has a brown crayon moment on the freeway. A mass of supports rally to his aid.

Geez i might make the series myself

    Quick question about liability.

Turns out that the trailer wheel bearing hadn't seen grease in about a year, by the looks of the rust in everything, which I assume caused the wheel to eventually give out, rub off the trailer, and blow out the tyre.

Now at the moment I'm looking at having to replace the tyre, plus an extra day's rental on top of that, which I feel is not really my responsibility - at the end of the day, I went from renting a trailer to make my life easier, to almost having an accident, sitting stranded at the side of the road for two hours while someone else had to come to my aid. Should I be replacing the tyre? Or should I be parking it up in their driveway, saying **** you and your shonky trailer, and walking away?? Bear in mind that this is rented from the local pub, not a dealership.....

If the guy at the pub had any decency he should not charge you at all. But if he does take a softly softly approach. Vern has to live in the town. It will soon get known that the guy at the pub is a low bastard for charging you extra

IMO you're pretty close to the mark. As the trailer was not provided with a spare and you had to source your own in order to ensure the job was done. (for the purpse of discussion with them you ensured their property was adequately cared for and made secure from being left on the side of the road) Any cost to repair/replace the tyre has already been borne by yourself.
I would take some pics for proof, if it is mobile drop it off and say thanks for the trailer, point out the fact it is unroadworthy which caused the blow out and therfore will not be replacing the tyre nor paying an extra rental charge for something unfit for purpose.

If they are unwilling to accept this contact the Vic Roads equivalent of the MVR and have an inspector defect the trailer and let the mob know that it is on the side of the road, come and get it.

Are you sure you didnt run over a Chinaman or break several mirrors Mike?
Arent you blokes supposed to have Leprachauns with lucky charms or something?

all the best....cant wait for the next installment..

No chance ! Plot stretches credulity... has happy ending (?) no spectacular explosions, family sagas or Murder Most Vile.. - may change when the trailer is returned... - and it won't appeal to the lowest of intellects, a.k.a. The Australian Viewing Public.

But if you could write in a Police chase and scantily clad women...
