Sorry to hear about the incident. OH&S stuff aside, you were spot on about the little things. Recently I had gotten fit, lost some weight, changed my whole outlook on life and starting a new job - first day. Bent over to tie my shoes, yanked a bit hard on a bad angle and BANG. I'm flat on my back with the doctor injecting pethadine (sp?) for a fortnight then on crutches for a while with the same problem that you have. So I can renovate, fix the landy, carry around the kids one in each arm etc but apparently not do up a shoe lace?
I feel for you, and I also second the comment about getting a second opinion - different surgeons, different opinions on the what, how, when and how much (to cut).
Good luck with the recovery, and bin those bloody work chairs asap.

Hope you quote Space Corps Directive 005 in relation to office furniture on your return to work too. :-)
1742? I'm sorry sir that doesn't quite get to the nub of the matter for me...
A big thanks for the warning - the wife has just been told to get that clattery office chair of hers, which leaves a trail of nuts and bolts behind it wherever it goes, replaced tomorrow!
Sadly, my office chair is an old Mahindra, and there's no fix for that!
All the best for your recovery. Do as much research as you can.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
Sounds like a clear case of employer negligence to me and a nice little court case for compensation.
As a matter of interest is Workcover pushing you to have the op with veiled threats of witholding payment if you don't and threats to not clear you to return to work without having the op. A friend's wife has the same injury. She is a cleaner and collapsed in pain when sliding a table around to mop. Her Workcover rep was making these threats then denied it until the recording was played back to her. Workcover is now humming and haring about the cost of the op, $17,000 plus.

Guess you are to far gone for the steroids and pain injection. That's what I had in the end. Chiropractor trid to tell that was a bad choice but I never looked back and it allowed me to learn the warning that I needed to stop or pay dearly.
Long way from my mind at the moment Brian, though I will be evaluating how well the company do by me to see which direction my mind goes in the near future.
At the moment the number of conversations with Workcover has been somewhat limited. No issues at all like you have mentioned.
