    I can't feel my bum!!!

    Dragging this old thread up.....

As an update, my recovery was going beautifully, I was starting to feel normal again, and enjoying some limited exercise......until a few weeks ago.

One simple stretch (part of my daily routine that the physio gave me) and WHAM! I lose the feeling in my foot again. Like turning off a light switch....and stretch UP....and.....ooh dear, someone appears to have stolen my foot. (It was words to that effect anyway. )

In attempting to 'soldier on', I had a bit of an incident at work, whereby my foot and leg refused to answer orders from the helm and promptly gave way underneath me, though thankfully a carefully placed cupboard and it's contents broke my fall.**

So to cut a long story short, I now have a partial reoccurrence of the original injury, and an attempt to alleviate the pain with a nerve root block (a long needle containing local anaesthetic and steroid into or around the damaged nerve deep in the spine) has lead to my current predicament - lying here on my bed with half a numb arse.

So the moral of the story is - don't sit on chairs, and don't stretch, you'll knacker your back.

**No cupboard contents were harmed in the making of this post.

Dave! , you are a brave man or very impatient
When my L4-L5 and L5-S1 gave me trouble it took me 6 month to start having back 25% of my normal life again.
I was unable to lift 2Kg form the kitchen bench.
Give it time mate, go slow so "in good time" (like Abbott say) you will be able to function at 90%.
Perhaps you have the same problem that I have, my brain say that I am 30 years old and my body does not what to know about that nonsense

So long as you stand at the bar, and put limited effort into lifting your beer, you'll be fine.

Thanks Arthur. I genuinely was feeling pretty good. The exercise sessions with the physio were really starting to help me regain some strength, it was going really really well! My case manager at Workcover was surprised at how quickly I seemed to be shaking it off, and then...bang......sorry Workcover, you've got a shed load more bills coming your way.
