If I hear the delay that these calls usually have before someone talks, or an Indian accent saying they're from "technical services" or whatever, I just hang up. But I've signed up for this https://www.donotcall.gov.au/ and it's worth doing.
I got a phone call today from an Indian fellow who I could hardly understand.
He informed me that my bank had overcharged me $5248.00 in bank fees and that he was from a government department which was overseeing it's return.
He gave me an application number and a Sydney phone number that I had to ring to give the number to.
When I phoned that number they also Indians, told me all I had to do was to pay the overseas lawyer $110.00 which was his class action fee. YEA I'M RICH!!!!!!
I would also have to too stupid to be able to pour water out of a boot!
Is there any one I can contact to stop these ripoff pratts?
Watch out People. I smell a scam.
Regards Nick.

At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
I used to regularly get calls from similar mobs regarding a nasty virus on my PC.
Was quite some fun keeping them on the line paying for the calls, going from operator to supervisor etc, finally telling them I use Linux or don't even have an internet connection. OK, small white lie, but fun none the less.
We switched from a regular Optus phone number to VoIP (mynetfone.com.au) and all of those annoying scam calls have gone away. It won't be long until we get rid of the "land line" altogether.

If it was a Sydney number you rang, then why don't you report it to the Federal or NSW police to follow up.
If you have a phone number then call the police about it and ask their advice if its worth them following it up.
