    Thanks for your thoughts
Yes, you are quite correct in assuming 'calories in vs calories out ' has nothing to do with weight (fat) gain or loss.
I've lost a heap of fat by doing 'no' exercise, - what I do at the gym is for fitness and mental/emotional balance.

Two books worth reading, one is Dr Ron Rosedale and his diet, the easier to read & digest.... is Gary Taubes and 'Why we get fat and what to do about it'
If you want a taste of his ideas, most of the info is available on youtube, such as here:-

I didn't do any of the exercise stuff and in that first month I lost 13kg and while I fluctuate a kg or 2 since I've been able to maintain it.

I sat in on the last week of the camp and I found the best exercise was the circuits and of those the best workouts came from either a circuit based on boxing (punching & kicking) or as said the rower on a gym based circuit. It works a heap of muscle groups and also has cardio effects as well.

Which ever way you go I'd try a trial at the gym forst to see what works for you before coughing up for and of your own gear.
Clean eating and circuit/interval training, you're on the money mate!

I am a bit confused about this going by my MHBR and how my dody respond in the rower.
    Mayo Clinic have this article:

Gauging intensity using your heart rate
    Hey Chucaro,
Sorry, I don't have web links to hand.
I'd have to consult my text books which are at my business.

Are you interested in methods of determining heart rates that will provide a training effect?

Yes, the one side effect has been the installation of an on site methane production unit.

But your own is never as bad as someone else's.

My blood pressure is the best its ever been, and my resting heart rate is about 55bpm, I shouldnt keel over any time soon, but still not enough

I guess it is because Ive become very fit so far as walking is concerned, and due to the knee pain I can't push myself hard enough to get the heart rate up. Ive just dragged out the mountain bike (funny how 6km on that can kill me far more than double distance walking, must be something to do with the headwind I get every time no matter which way I go). 1km on the orbitrek is even worse

Thought a supported weight set type thing (rather than me trying free weights) would be ideal as a finisher. Had a couple narrowed down and one looks far more extensive than the other though it is cheaper

Getting away from the HR discussion and back to your original question.
I wouldn't buy either of these machines and would advise you to stay away from any peck deck machines, as they have a high potential for injury to beginners because of the poor anatomical position of the shoulder, and are used by intermediate and advanced weight lifters.I refuse to have one in my PT studio as there are so many exercises that isolate the chest better.

The first thing I would like to ask is What do you hope to achieve by buying an exercise machine or starting weight training?

Is your goal weight loss, fitness or building strength?

Have you ever used weight equipment before?

The answers to these questions lead to more questions.

From your other posts in this thread you stated that you don't start eating until brunch. This is a no no for losing weight, you need to fire up the metabolism as soon as you get up. My suggestion is to have breakfast while your hubby is toasting his back and eat something (containing a protien source) every three hours and your body will start to burn the fat real quick.
