    Free wheeling hubs

Could some body tell me why it seems Defenders don't have freewheeling hub options. The latest model Landcruiser(may I say that word) still have them as standard equipment. Would they be of any gain on a Defender for highway driving.

Because part time 4WD is a remnant of pre-80s era design, you are far better off with full time 4WD.

LandCruisers use an antiquated part time 4wd system that LandRover stopped using back in 1980. That's 33 years ago and is a good indication of the crap technology that the Japs are known for. Japs copy what others design.

Because the Defender is an all wheel drive vehicle making such things redundant.

Free wheeling hubs on any Land Rover made in the last thirty odd years will induce a 'fail to proceed' situation.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I'm sorry...... WHICH Landcruiser offers freewheeling hubs?????

To my knowledge (and I stand to be corrected here), the 100 series and the 200 series LC's are constant all wheel drive with no free wheeling option except maybe on the utility models which are massively overpriced tractors anyway.

meybe you need one of these LT230 part Time 4wd kits.

Obviously there is a niche market for them

    Ashcroft Transmissions part time kits

When I had my 90 (in the avatar above) I had a Ford F100 v8, c6 Auto , Lock Up converter & a Nissan G-60 Transfer case, Part Time 2wd-4WD selectable - even in Low Range !!,
4.1 cw&p, Maxidrive DL F&R (but no FWH)

At the lights next to the boy racers it was such fun to slip it into Low Range 2WD , Rear Diff lock engaged, Hold the foot on the brakes & smoke up the rear wheels, The front brakes would stop the car moving but the Grunt overcame the rear brakes & smoked up the tyres into low 3rd , you could even do donut burnouts .... well that was 30 yrs ago

just saying there may be a niche market for such a thing.
