Thread: TD5 oil filter change periods.

I think the centrifuge is regular, but I'm not sure if the full flow is 60,000 though. To be honest, I do both every 10k because they are both cheap and it gives me peace of mind. That said, I think the centrifuge filters out to a level that the full flow could only dream of, so the full flow probably only catches anomalies anyway.

I do both of mine between 10-12, same as air filters.

As Slunnie said, filters are cheap. Having not had my D2 for that long I have only done mine once(both filters) but I will be doing both every 10K.

Apart from being cheap, they are also easy to get at.

I think it's the other way around ie full flow at 10 and centrifugal at 20.

I also change both of mine at 10 though.

I've just checked the service guide. It's centrifuge every 20,000km and full flow every 60,000km under what Land Rover determine as "normal" conditions.

When I got my first Td5 I was also confused by the recommended oil filter change intervals. So I cut my first centrifuge filter open after 10,000kms and discovered there was a thin very fine paste like build up around the outside of the housing with heaps of room for further deposits/buildup. The second centrifuge was left in for 20,000kms before being cut open and examined with result being similar to the first one - buildup was probably 2mm thick so still plenty of room for further buildup.

As a result of these investigations I now change the centrifuge every 30k and the full flow every 10k.
Defender has now done 175k and D2 has 215k with no known ill effects.

I don't think $160.00 an oil change is all that cheap every 10K.!
