The Bomb - history in detail BBC pod cast

Mr smarty pants thought I knew a bit about the Bomb, The irony in who did what and why was more than interesting.

Making Refugees of Mr Einstein and Mr Leo Szilard, Pearl Harbour then news of 2 million murders in 1941 in American news papers ...... This is not a slow burn.
Trivia but not trivial! Mr Leo Szilard conceived the nuclear chain reaction in 1933, he patented the idea of a nuclear fission reactor 1934!

The English said no can do in 1939! It is amazing to think 'what if' at more than a few points in this one.

Its on spotify called the bomb. Link below works for me the 403 error is hmm

Lend lease is often mentioned in WW2 histories and they mention the open cheque book, US access to bases and destroyers. Most fail to mention the open chequebook was an overdraft that had to be repaid

Also under the Lead Lease agreement the UK government and business had to liquidate all assets in the US which were sold at fire sale prices as the buyers knew they were not willing sellers and had a deadline to complete the sales. UK had to hand over that new Radar technology with designs of latest equipment and ASDIC for ships. Plus other technology that the US did not have. And the UK nuclear program complete with scientists. The UK was to cease nuclear research

The nuclear research program was the second most expensive US weapons program. Eclipsed by the cost of the B29 bomber. So probably not within UK budget priorities to invest the funds in a nuclear program that the US did

This is something that gets me riled when I see how Hollywood won the war. Britain was fighting for her life and the US sought to profit from it. John Wayne never mentions that.

The biggest spy of all times? Klaus Fuchs

The Bomb Series two. Even more history that blew me away

The biggest spy of all times and the events that made it happen. The fanaticism, communism and almost intriguing question of IF western allies let Hittler run riot in communist Russia a little longer to deal with the cold war that clearly started before WW2. That little gem honestly floored me.

The Current Pres Alexander Putin at a Bristish Funeral as the KGB Honor Mr Klaus Fuchs who would clearly have won a Noble price except for the fact he was a spy !
other cool trivia in Mr Fuch is "While imprisoned, Fuchs was friendly with the Irish Republican Army prisoner Seamus Murphy with whom he played chess and helped to escape"

The 14 years in UK prison deported to East Germany and 'may' have helped "Tsien San-Tsiang" get the BOMB in China!

Ursula Kuczynski a scone making, bike riding spy master and so much more

Only problem is knee injury not allowing me enough time running to complete it all today
