I built two early 80's Mazda 323's with Rotary's, one was a little bugeye wagon with a 12a Bridgey, it flew! I loved it, but the police didn't.
His is a Series 8 - imported from Japan. He has also just picked up an RX4 coupe rolling body as a project. Also has a 13B and 5 speed - pretty much mechanically identical to the RX7. Will be interesting to see how that turns out. Body is in very good condition.
    Cheers .........

I spent all my money on karts then race cars, never had a really decent/fast roadie at all, although what do you consider a hoon?

Is having an ordinary looking family station wagon drifting and sideways at well past 160km/h on dry bitumen hooning?
Or sliding through corners @ 130km/h in the wet?
Or on the wrong side of 140km/h through a long, fast dirt sweeper with a pleasant little drift happening with maybe half a turn of oppy lock?

Or 100km/h at the apex of a 90* corner where a big Red Gum sat with the nose of the car pointing straight at the trunk as it drifted past so the car was lined up dead straight for the corner exit? (some of that speed could've been wheel spin, it was dirt)

Or practising Swedish flick turns @ 100km/h corner entry on bitumen to wash off the speed entering a 35km/h corner?

Or having near 2500kg of Defender drifting at 110-115km/h on dry bitumen, muddies tend to have a bit of sidewall flex but the right tyre will let go in a nice, controlled manner when near minimum tread depth, so I'm led to believe....
The worst part of sliding a Defender is that if you don't gather it up momentum will make sure that your clothes will be out of fashion by the time the prang ends....

Of course no responsible, middle aged individual would ever admit to such abhorrent and anti-social behaviour, and I definitely would never condone it, but when you see that lentil munching, latte sipping yoga teacher sitting in the corner of your local cafe just pause for a second and wonder......

    Naa, wouldn't happen!

    Thumbs down

A Hoon?...well what is a "Hoon"?...someone that drives recklessly & dangerously, endangering their own & other peoples lives? Is that what a "Hoon" is?, because if it is, I have NEVER been one, & I'm in my sixties, I've had my share of "Good" cars, lots of V8s, still love 'em, our current one is an AMG C63....6.2L V8, around 500HP....and it is FAST.
However, if a "Hoon" is someone that has driven fast, when safe to do so, has driven to Qld in an EH sitting on 70/75 MPH most of the way, (families did that in those days!) has done the occasional burnout when exiting a car show, (when being "egged on" to do so, by young boys at the exit), enjoyed a bit of "opposite lock" from time to time,...well then yes, I've been a "Hoon".
During the last few years, road rules have become more & more "restrictive", so I don't do ANY of that stuff any more.....even when I'm on a bullet straight safe country road in a totally safe, well engineered car, in perfect conditions,......I do not exceed the speed limit.......and my driving pleasure has severely diminished.
    Cheers, Pickles

hahahaha, good response! I know not of such activities, nor whom would have done such ridiculous things.

Swedish flick? most would prefer the more broad reference to the Scandinavians!

You are forgetting the two wheeled versions! 200+kph wheelies, or 1 hr trips to Bathurst..etc

I must ask, does an Autech Stagea pass as a Family Looking station wagon?

This person you speak of still into karts?

it's an RS series 8, and some Japanese souped up version of the RS (I'm not as up to speed with Mazda models / terminology as the young bloke is).

Haven't got any pics of the RX4 yet. It's a very straight body, painted in grey primer at the moment. He's still chasing parts etc for the interior - it had been stripped out and was going to be turned into a drag car by previous owner.

Has both the RX4 and 929 grilles with it, and had 929 tail lights and rear panel, though these were not correct for the body. He told me yesterday that he has now got the correct RX4 rear panel and is just chasing the tail lights.
    Cheers .........

Maybe hooning it is a thing of the past?

And you are right, how is it defined?

Awesome! I helped a mate source a nice RS Series 8 a little while ago, awesome cars, just awesome!

N/A 13b going into the RX4? Is he going ballistic porting (MP,BP,PP) or down the forced induction route?

My first car was a Mazda RX3 sedan which I restored (twice) and ended up with it and a RX4 sedan.. rotaries are very addictive.. Loved the look of shock on many V8 owners faces after being blown away at he lights by a "rice burner"... don't miss that feeling or that car... much... sold it back in the early 90's.
Like some others had said.. bring on the mid-life crisis and hopefully the funds to go along with it!!
    Cheers

I like my V8's. One of them is a Merc. Not an AMG 6.3 but a 3.5.
The V8's came to me later in life. In my younger years I had mainly fours.
