I saw one in Ellingson's Museum, Rogers, Minnesota in 2011 for sale for $250,000. Bugger.

600+ horsepower and could smoke wheels at 120 mph in 3rd. Actually it could wheelspin at will at virtually any speed in any gear. 12:1 compression and I ran it on 115/145 Avgas. It was my weekend play car. I had a company car as well. Bit of a bugger to drive in the wet.
Have to say Brian, no one on here so far comes close to this for awesomeness, no bike, no jap donk turbo thingy, no swerving at speed cameras! Just a pure big cube v8 muscle car. So envious
Would want to have been a kick ass lounge sweet

Not nice to take over 130 mph. it was a stock convertible body without aerodynamic add-ons. Got very floaty and wandering at those speeds. Needed front and rear devices to provide some down force and divert the air from packing up under the front end and lifting the nose. A Superbird high wing on the back would have been good but probably would have looked a bit silly. It was never beaten in a street race during my ownership.

It has been restored a couple of times since and been through a couple of colour changes. The current owner has taken it back to original. He uses it very little. Fuel is a problem. 115 Avgas is no longer available and 100LL just doesn't cut it even if you were allowed to buy it. He says if he ever has to rebuild the Hemi, he will get low compression pistons and reduce it 9.5:1 and run on 98 Unleaded. I doubt if anyone would notice the loss of a few horses.

A few years later, about 1983 I was offered a '71 Plymouth Superbird, Hemi 4 speed, low miles, for US$8,300. It was in Owatonna, Minnesota and I figured that I could land it here for about A$17,000. I had been travelling pretty well and had paid off our house and was cashed up from sale of two blocks of land. The cook flew through the ceiling at mention and refused to discuss the matter. Pity, these jiggers are now worth upwards of $400,000 and are the ultimate Muscle or Super car. 200 mph laps on the super speedways of Nascar. They were faster than the race tyre technology of the time.

It is only supposed to be pumped directly into an aircraft nowadays. Not for use in motor vehicles or marine craft. Do you know someone who is prepared to break or stretch the rules? In any case it is not good enough to run a race spec Hemi.
