But before you start with 'No,1 Rule'....
"Do you need to be there, that way, right now?"
- Its understood you've got a plan for getting back.....
I think you'll find it's the same as rule number one
Walk it first, snatching on an angle, not being correctly set up to recover in the event of a failure, getting freaked out and rushing things, trying to cross when the tide coming in was imminent, do you really need to do it, driving an awful 200 series dual cab chop abomination
Those are just things I noticed, some of them may not be applicable.
Out of curiosity, could they have chucked old mates 76 series into low range reverse and used the engine to hold it while they winched? Or used the trailer as an anchor? or.......
I broke a cardinal rule of 4x4 once. I use the word cardinal in q nautical sense.
Lost my 110 to some hiding mangrove mud and a rising tide. It came up to the roof.
I now consider rule one to be don't drive below the high tide mark. :-)

they knew the ridge was there.....
they knew they were close enough for it to get in the way.....
and they still tried on an angle....
idiots....
What about the number one rule of generating interest in your tv show? Get stuck, act like you are in a panic, flip your car over and make your viewers think they are smarter than you. Then leave it hanging so people will search for what happened in the end.
Looks like two snatch straps linked together by threading one though the other and putting a newspaper in to stop them knotting up and not being able to be undone. See 1:00 for a slightly better view.
Not ideal, but when you need length you need length...
Their knotted snatch strap recovery is this one, and no it does not end well
