V.W. recall, unusual defect

And these are the reasons I drive older cars! Technology has gone stupid in the last few years, I don't see the advantages.
I've been a mechanic all my life but I refuse to drive or have anything to do with the latest generation of cars. Dealership mechanics these days are not allowed to diagnose. They simply send the codes back to the factory are told which components to replace. And if all of this meant that we had more reliable cars ...........but alas. My old diesel hilux gets me into town just as easily as my wifes new Focus, but I can dim the dashboard lights without having to refer to page 26 of the owners manual and scrolling through several menus to do so and my wiper blades are $4 each not $40! And if the oil breaks down in my gearbox i may get some backlash but I can still drive home.

But I'm right with you. This is getting stupid. I just read through this thread with my mouth hanging open as I didn't know this was happening with these cars. And up here, if you do have trouble, it's very simple: your nice new car is shipped off somewhere and you'll get it back in WEEKS, if you're lucky. And in the meantime you get to walk everywhere. In 40c heat. Ooh, modern times.

And the dealers still couldn't understand why I wanted a manual.

The 6sp manual box is great. Better fuel economy, better driving pleasure, longer service intervals, cheaper service costs, lighter, stronger.
New they are cheaper, second hand they are dearer.

Her car was manual. It's not related to the current recall.

Only really had to deal with VW service once, noisy aircon, they said that it was normal, turned out to be the pollen filter, at least they looked at the car, and our service guy never changed it because he said it wasn't due to be looked at till 50,000ks, I'm assuming they don't take into account that it goes offroad and therefor needs to be checked a lot sooner:eek:

VW assist are a waste of space, I know that from experience, but then so are LR Assist:twisted:

Despite lots of evidence about issues related to VWs, last week the coroner's verdict did not link the accident to the actions of the car.

I'm trying to sell a Golf at the moment.

It's a Pumpe-Duse 1.9 TDI (like a Td5 with camshaft pressurised injectors) so no 2.0 CR recall issues.
It's got a properly serviced DQ250 dual wet clutch 6 speed DSG, so no DQ200 recall issues there either.

FVWSH, 100k, immac throughout bar a small mark on the rear bumper where some gypo backed into it.

Cannot give it away. Biggest loss I will have ever made on a car in a 14 month ownership.

Lesson - I will drive my 300k+ 300Tdi Disco until it completely falls apart... then I will move onto my 3.9 V8 Disco and do the same thing.

the dealer network is an utter disgrace imho

like i said in the other thread, i never been so happy to get a vehicle thru manufacturers warranty in my life

the caddy's 6 speed wet clutch dsg is the pick of them and is so dam nice to drive...

just a shame the name is being trashed by the dealer network...

The injector recall IS for the PD engines - but it is for the 2.0 125kw version, not the newer CR. However your older 1.9 with bosch injectors is not part off it. Problem, is hardly anyone understands that there is 3 different injectors in the Golf5 tdi range.

The siemens unit injectors fitted to the PD170 (125kw) in the Golf5 ingest oil (as they are under the rocker cover like the TD5), the oil fries the piezo crystal and the car shuts down with no warning at all, if you are travelling in gear it stops very quickly.

My wifes Golf failed, middle of intersection, middle city, middle of peak hour. Just stopped with message on the dash “ENGINE FAILURE” – helpful. The bastards made us pay to have the injector replaced, VWA said at the time they had not heard of others - pointed them to vwwatercooled where the numbers were being documented - not interested. (since been refunded as part of the recall). It stopped again so we got rid of it in Feb this year just before the media hype started –lucky, I got top $ then, as you say, can’t give them away now.

And don’t worry about getting left without a car for 2 weeks in the country, the dealer had it for 2 weeks in Brisbane – no replacement injectors in Aus?? WTF!!

Can I ask why you are trying to sell it? If it’s not playing up, general consensus is hang on.

Not sure it is the dealers, I think they are screwed over by VW Australia. Just look at how long they took to recall issues that have been recalled in UK/US/China ect ect ages ago. The dealers know that VWA is not going to approve anything without a fight.
