Do not forget the billions in donations to the polluters with the proposed Direct Action policy

There seems to be a strong reaction against the government's talk of raising the pension age to 70, even among LNP voters.

Umm? I was responding to the assertion that Aus "stuffed" up by not using the UK pension system.

Is it just me? Or maybe this is overly simple, but I believe it would be better to be encouraging older people to leave the workforce so as to give their jobs to younger people.

My view is an Old Age Pension is a better look on the governments budget than the dole.

I will be taking early retirement in the next few months (I'm 61 and not eligible for an OAP until 65 1/2). I'm in a defined benefit and an accrual fund and I have a share portfolio and own my own home. No, I'm not "lucky" as some would like to put it, I just made decisions to suit me at certain times of my life. A few years ago I also had to give half of my super away and buy half of my house again But that's life.

I will be rolling all of this over to a pension fund and as such, because I am over 60, I will pay no tax on the income I receive from it.

    G'day Mate.
Have you worked out what you are going to do when you retire ?
Twenty or thirty years perhaps is a long time to have to fill in.

    Cheers.

Thirty years it is not enough to do all the things that I love to do. I am in the number 10 and need another 40 to do what it is in my list
The problem is that every day I am more inquisitive and like to explore and learn more. The list still growing

    you can't be serious

I've been retired for 11 years and there is NO trouble finding constructive things to do for my family and in the community.

I would hope that I do have 10 or 15 years left and I if I do I'm not short of things to do.

I'd hate to think I had to work in a paid job just to fill in time !

    G'day Robert.

My answer to the perrenial question "what will you do when you retire" is .....anything I want I cant believe that people get to their 60's with no ideas, plans or hobbies.

As you can see, I have a number of projects in the LR department for a start. I'm still in good health, so there's a lot of walking and touring to do. Plus I'm lucky enough to have a 47 year old sheila saddle up to me and her place (where we live) is big enough to keep me busy with yard maintenance, vegie gardening etc (8 acres) And there's my feeble wood working skills to exercise again. I'm a very happy chappy when I have a shed to play in and toys to play with.

30 years? That may be a stretch, but we live in hope. My Mum and Dad lasted well into their 80's, but my sister went at 62 . I'll just have to take it as it comes.

    That's good news Perry.
I was kind of hoping that a 47 year old would turn up.
Makes all the difference doesn't it.

    Cheers.
