Thanks GB, a picture's worth a thousand words. That setup would certainly test the UJs. I would have thought the swivel would have some sort of dampening to prevent the lifting of a rear wheel under power.

    You'd lose ground clearance somewhere.

Similar to a Hagglunds but with wheels? They have hydraulic pivots in two planes AFAIK. Or perhaps similar to the Gama Goat, not sure if that is hydraulic or just pivoted on two planes-having the third axle is a must if not an 'active' pivot.

you would need flexi brake hoses near the center tho

In the bottom photo, are the two angled brackets so that it can be locked?? doesnt look like it would give much strength to the joint, so assume for something else... eg lock pin?

My first thought was to use as a conduit holder of cabling and/or pipes for brakes etc. Look to be added as after thoughts to the initial design process though. There'd still be a range of movement there though so i think nix to that idea. Cabling and pipes would likely pass through the centre of the pipe if it is clear. To lock it up I would have thought the lock mechanism be better placed at the outermost point of rotation in the original chassis area.
