Wahooooo! old farts rule. [ better than having hijackers talk about how much Indian students earn, or such. didn't see that in the first post] Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

frantic can you please stop adding 1 + 1 and getting 15.

"and started employing Indians and Indian students. Sickies also decreased to non existent and productivity increased. Drugs are a now a non issue."

About the only thing you have been right about is that the students can only work 20 hours a week. We had them job share which I have explained previously.

Indians who have permenant residency we employ at 38 hours a week but I am tired of explaining when you deliberately misrepresent everything said and con not acknowledge even when the results are blatantly clear that the results were significantly better.

Ean, sorry this has gotten sidetracked. I have shared your pain and fully sympathise with your situation. Have you tried grey nomads as they would be less concerned about the varying days and will grab what they can before moving on? Maybe a notice on the board in the local shopping centre/caravan park. We have had success with that looking for part time ladies who were looking for work in school hours.

Nearly had a stand up fight on the footpath with one guy who was demanding to be sacked and me refusing!!!!!!!

The bottom line is that the incentive to work has to be greater than the reward for not working. It was amazing how eager Indian students were to work as they had no fall back position. And before frantic jumps on the union bandwagon....they were paid exactly the same wages and had exactly the same conditions as the Aussies or anyone else. Ironically because of our bonus sytem, they earned more than the Aussies because they worked harder!
Sorry I read this post and believed what you said?

Nothing about job share or permanent residents until your last post , just a paragraph highlighted where you said they earn't more. Along with your complaints that Aussie applicants would not work a 38hr week and only did 3 or told centerlink they did 3. This gave the impression that 38hrs Was what all the casuals worked.

Now I honestly believe you when you now say you employ students part time. and am amazed at how different your experience with casuals is to mine.

P.s hope everyone had a good Australia day, I'm nightshift so will pass all the stragglers on the way home.

The idea have his merits, perhaps would be a good option to place them in something that it compatible with their experience or vocation.
For those that never worked it can be a good work experience and reference for the future.
The Federal Government wants to make good on its election commitment to reinstate the Howard-era program, but says much of the detail is still to be worked out, including when the scheme will restart.

Dole recipients would be asked to take part in civic maintenance, cleaning streets and parks, as occurred in the scheme’s first inception.

This to me it is bull, quote:
Labor says making people on the dole work for their welfare takes them away from time they could spend finding a job.

Work-for-the-dole could be expanded into aged care homes, Federal Government says

My best mate owns a business in Adelaide which employs a large number of people.

He has had the same employees forever and they are growing old with the firm.

He has no one taking sickies, never needs to look for casual labour and almost has to force them to take holidays.

    Why is this?

He is a great bloke. He treats his employees with utmost respect. He knows his business cannot run without them and lets them know.

He shares some of his profits with them, knows all their families on first name basis.

He knows and admits he is not the indispensable man and just about all his employees can run the show if he is away.

Xmas gifts, birthday gifts, drinks , eats after work, he and his assistant mgr brother are loved by the employees.

Now , every employer can be like this.

Many years ago I worked for a now defunct vehicle manufacturer in Sydney, when it had one of it's many staff downsizes, (one division of this company also employed Brian Hjelm as well, and both he and I can give you first hand knowledge of it's management's practices), I did eventually go to another major Australian owned (at the time) spare parts manufacturer as a phone order/sale person, when I returned home to Qld, I was approached by the management of my local * store to come and work with them as a phone order operator, the wages (gross) that I was offered was well below that of my take home in NSW was, even at single man's tax rate,I said NO, and showed the manager my last couple of my old pay slips, his answer, "we don't even pay managers that!" which I answered "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys"

Nothing unusual about this. Most firms will have a majority core of long term employees who are valued and who are treated as such. They tend to have low days off and are as, if not more important to the firm as the employer. These are the people that employers want to keep. No question.

Most firm also will have a percentage of employees who constantly turn over. This actually where the discussion is.

Yes every employer can be like this and it is made easier if every employee is as dedicated as the majority core of long term employees. Sadly some people believe it is only the employer who has obligations.

How many years of your life you have been working for other companies in the manufacture industry and not as business owner or manager?
It is not unusual, it very rare at least in my over 50 years working in different states in Australia and OS.
Greed is a human fault and it take over human values and ethics and it reflect in how the working class it is treated.

Perhaps, but since the working class is human they are also display the same behaviour which characterises greed. They just express it in different ways.
