we have battery toothbrushes,,,,,I've got in the habit of inverting the battery as soon as I rinse it. yes they will switch on bouncing around.

having used electric toothbrushes for so long , it feels weird to give yourself a hand job.

What I'm looking for is either an electric toothbrush that can be charged from the Land Rover's 12 volt supply, a gadget that will allow our existing Brauns to be charged from 12 volts or a really good toothbrush that runs on replacement batteries.

I know that a converter can be used to take 12 volts to mains power and then back down again to whatever the toothbrush needs but this seems a very wasteful way to do it. Surely there must be a better way.

Any experiences or views out there?

Since having my dental implants fitted I have to use one of these - http://www.waterpik.com.au/product.aspx?id=2 - I opted for this particular model as when charged it can be used for at least a week between charges and is fully portable making it ideal for camping etc.

You can also get toothbrush attachments for it, so it might be a solution for you to consider. It certainly works

This reminds me of the story if the 60's where the Americans spent millions developing a pen that works in space and the Russian just used a pencil.
