Firefish,there are few categories of farmers, the family operated farm and the corporation owned farm.
Greed, yes the corporated operated farm the one that have " reponsabilities" to those share holders who invest looking on the returns and not in the company ethics.
The public does not have to pay $50.00 meat, we are spoilled we like to have produce that it is not in season, we like to have food that it is not sustainable by our ecosystem, we are " greed" for things that supose to not have or have in a limited supply.
For that reason we get meat with hormones, in Tasmania fruit dipped in poison up to the center (fruit fly regulations) because we like to have vegetables that are out of season, we get fish from asian coutries contamined with DDT, Dieldrin and metals.
Do you get the idea?

I'm an ex farmer,, why is this??
Oh, that'll be because when we have to kill sheep in the paddock because we can't get feed for them,, all your supermarkets were busy charging $20 kg for it. We couldn't even pay to have them taken to the butchers.

A lot of grain growers get told what to grow, otherwise the buyers won't buy.
This way they, the buyer, can get modified grain in to the market.

For those that want to do the right thing, organic growing costs a fortune to get certified too.

There's plenty of land out there for growing all sorts of crops and stock, but we keep using all the good land for housing.
Doesn't matter which way you look at it, it is all about greed, from every direction.

If Australian producers switched from feeding cattle Trenbolone to Toblerone there would be far less problems. Our cattle would still be fattened for the export market but to my knowledge Toblerone is yet to banned anywhere.
