Can you tell me when that was Phillip? I suspect it was after I finished my little stint there. Possibly while I was delivering it to houses about two years later.
But yep, it may have been my inattention to detail/concentration, and a bad taste left in my mouth after my experience there,,, although, milking was a job/lifestyle I actually really liked.
I was young when I was on the dairy farm, my cousins farm. He had about 120 cows, and the old guy next door Norm, he had from memory about 250. Norm actually had what was considered by many in the area to have one of the best herds around, in general, considered to be a top grade farmer/milker/breeder, and he used to complain too.
At the markets when we all used to talk to everybody, I dont remember any talk of good prices,, only grumbling with the best part being, none of us had to pay for milk. :D yumm
I also used to do relief milking for a couple of people in the area too. These guys had big herds, 300+,, kept me mighty busy. The bigger of these two were full on businesses as you can imagine, and once again, continually complaining about price. And he had it good, I thought, with such a large herd, he should be raking it in. The one main thing I remember of the time was some were looking for butter fat content, and others not, and this certainly made a difference in price.
So, deregulation may have come, and maybe it was good for some, maybe not, but when I was there, it seemed to me it was'nt a good time.
We get grass fed beef from a butcher who has his shop between Redcliffe & Scarborough, in Qld, called Midway, I kid you not. Best meat I've found!
Vegies, well we're pretty home productive so hormone thingies don't affect us but I still don't agree with a lot of it. Pictures are to "Show Off" :D
!0 tears ago, when we lived in Childers (Qld) we used to get our meat from a butcher in Biggenden. He have his own farm and killed his own beast.

Now, living south of Hobart we get local Angus or Hereford meat, the best meat in Oz IMO :)
Been buying my meat from Paul for a few years even though I don't live in the area anymore. Definitely worth the travel.Quote:

Deregulation of the Australian dairy industry - Department of Agriculture
Like any industry particularly the primary industries, 20% of the companies make 80% of the profit , and the rest just plod along.
The good operators like Moxy in Sydney with about 2000Cows make a good living and it is run like a business.
