Prompted by another raging debate about sauce, ity is apparent to any Aussie that there are a LOT of AWFUL pies and pie shops out there.
What we need to know is... where to buy a GREAT pie ?
Let us know the name of the place - enough address to find it by GPS (if you can) and a bit of commentary about it.

There is only one "Best Pie" IMO and they are Fredo in Frederickton NSW
With a selection of 40 different pies they will be hard to beat.
It is one of my pit stops when I going north.

Timbertown, Wauchope. Old fashioned... full of actual meat, enough gravy but not enough to run down your chin, tastes like a pie should, and always freshly baked.
No idea on sauce dispensary methods mind you.

I've had a few memorable pies in my travels and the most notable being from the Beechworth Bakery in Echuca. I can't recal the name of it but it was full of chunky, tender steak and no gristle. It had a slightly peppery gravy and was delicious.
As Chucaro has suggested, Freedo's make a great pie with a huge range pies and sausage rolls. Located just north of Kempsey on the Pacific Hwy.

SubscriberI don't eat many pie's but Woori Yallock bakery on Warburton Hwy, VIC would have to be the best around this neck of the woods.
They have won awards but no idea if any are current.

If you're heading into the Flinders or over to one of the peninsulii out west of Adelaide, your first stop has got to be Kipling's Bakery in Port Wakefield.
Grab yourself a chicken Satay Pie with sauce and make sure you eat it before you drive off. Entering the flow of traffic sucks in Port Wakefield at the best of times, so you'll want to avoid having to turn back and do it all over again when you decide that you need seconds.
On the main highway, right in the middle of town, next to the Shell servo. Its a tiny brick building with a large red-on-white sign.

MacDonald's pie shop in Market St Mudgee (NSW) has pretty good pies and a great atmosphere.
Their sausage rolls, unfortunately, are rather ordinary. In fact nearly everyone's sausage rolls are tasteless and boring. Hence the need for sauce. My top score (so far) for sausage rolls goes to the Chi Cong hot bread shop in Main St Lithgow (again NSW). Their rolls are moist and oniony. Now that I've let the cat out of the bag they'll probably be sold out when I'm passing through and call in wanting a sossy roll.
Does this observation mean that now sausage rolls are a sub-thread?
