As far as driver training in 4WD go, there is a case for inexprienced drivers to have training ie:- friend Paul lends his Disco to mate first time driver of 4x4, same day rolls it at lights slamming breaks & lock up probably wouldn't happen in sedan :?: ie 2:- ex president's wife takes out lifted Disco with muddies, slides in rain, tipps over and takes out traffic lights, again BMW driver out of depth.

We think its tough about this type of licensing as we are probably all good drivers knowing our vehicles capabilities on & off road....but there are those that I've had on some trips scare the crap out of me watching their performance level.

Before anyone gets hot under the collar I do not think we should have special licences or testing for 4WD. I have bike, class 5 truck & others to keep me upright, some learn by experience others never will learn no matter what testing or training they attend.

RoverOne, I don't quite follow your argument. You say that drivers need training; that I agree on, but not a special license? Just extra training? The advantage of a license, or test is that it proves a certain level of competence. We all know about turn-up-and-pass training.[

I'm a advocate for advanced driver training before license issue in NSW ( yes I have done a couple and also Stay Upright course for bikes) I've driven hard all my life, millions of miles and still live to tell the tale, I've also Ralleyed a couple of years, and motocross/ Finke desert/ Sunrasia Rally (70's) etc. but plenty broken toes, ankle and now crook shoulder.

In both the above accidents, had they one intense day on the skid pans, I'm convinced the chances are they could have avoided the tip over?? Well maybe not Rex the d**k head ops: .

We are over licensed and over governed, the license won't stop deaths, only training will, the license now "a certain level of competance" and thats all, just enough not to run the wheels up onto the gutter whilst parking :!:
