DEALERS DON'T REALLY WANT TO DEAL

as some of you may recall from previous threads , I have been 'in the market' for a new vehicle.

I have been to one of Qld's leading Land Rover dealers who were very patient and let me spend hours driving things.

    Bottom line.....$4-5000 trade-in on a new defender.

I told them what $50,000 could do for my D2 if I kept it instead of trading it.

Obviously they are so smug about selling the Defenders they don't even want to "deal".

I have contacted a number of dealers with good low mileage Defenders and they are the same. Similar offers.

Looks like Grumble and I are going to grow old together.

I'm a cash buyer and I'm just not going to give these turds my business.

A VW dealer didn't want to trade it.

Well, Grumble's about to take me into the desert again for several weeks.

I hope he doesn't get offended and do anything to offend me.

What year ,model and k's? Td5 or v8 auto or manual? A d2 goes from $5-15,000 depending on condition ,year, k's and options. For most dealers they don't want to ( or can't depending upon license)sell anything over 10 years old or 160k's( the old 100,000 mile Mark) And this is obvious in the trade in offered.

Most of the Defenders bought between now and when they are discontinued will be order cars, why would they want to do a deal if it wasn't burning a hole on their lot? I got a price on one a week or so ago and couldn't get bugger all off (with mates rates).

Also 4-5k is ballpark trade in for a D2 (pre-update).

    Cheers
    Will

So your disappointed at the market value of your disco as a trade in against a defender. Not quite sure how that turns what was an accommodating dealer into a smug turd.

As was suggested break up your disco, sell it for what you reckon it's worth and use the proceeds to offset the cost of the defender you want. If, as you say, it's a cash buy then what's stopping you?

The dealer is dealing you just don't like the deal that your offered. Having a whinge about it won't change anything.

Stick to your guns and keep the D2 , had the same problem with my 2002 BA falcon, dealers did not to play fair so decided to keep it , it cant depreciate any more in value , its owned , great back up car , and money still in bank , great outcome !! . The excitement of a new car soon wears off these days anyway .

    some interesting replies.

just about everyone in the forum knows a fully fitted out D2 in good nick is worth 3-4 times the trade offers I received.

but I'm quite prepared to accept the replies I got from here.

I wont be stripping the disco , we will continue our love affair and I will continue doing my 10-15000km bush trips each year in much more comfort than in the Defender 130 I was considering purchasing.

I will still enjoy being with all my SA mates in their new LC200's and FJ cruisers and
    Rangers.

With the $60,000 I'm not going to spend now I will further top up my retirement fund and do some more month long ocean cruises with my lovely wife.

    Long live Grumble.

I got $6000 for my D2 when we traded it on our VW Amarok, they didn't want any of the accessories, so I removed most of them.

$5000 to $6000 is about all you'll get as a trade in, $15,000 is about the limit you'll get as a private sale if you're lucky, and it will have to be in really good knick with low Ks too.

Check the markets out, there are a couple in there.
