Nothing new to most I would say. Around here there is a habit of indicating to go straight through a round about, I kid you not. So if you come up to a round about, you see a vehicle coming, indicator on for a right turn, you wait and the vehicle goes straight on. Soon enough you expect all vehicles to go straight on and you don`t give way. There is one round about in Belgrave that is a exception it has five roads entering it. But a standard round about, why ?

In Tassie the rule is you must indicate if turning and also to leave the roundabout if practicable. We have a lot of really small roundabouts which are just stupid. Seems most people can't manage it even on a normal one. I had a person indicating left on approach yesterday, I didn't like the look of their approach so I gave way, sure enough they went straight (and looked confused that the small guy in the big Land Rover was yelling at them)
IF ONLY THERE WAS A WAY TO SHOW OTHER PEOPLE WHAT YOUR INTENTIONS ARE!
I think in Qld. You are required to indicate R, then switch to L as you leave the roundabout, when travelling straight on.
I often just do it the POM way - indicate if I'm turning. I'm not indicating? Then I'm either going straight on - or pretending to be a local!![]()
if you are in the left lane (assuming a standard 2 lane 4 exit round about)
you indicate right to go straight ahead and then indicate left when you pass the first exit on your left.
this is optional.
the original teaching I got was.
unless you are going to turn immediately left, indicate right as you enter the round about and then after you pass the exit before the one you want then indicate left to exit.

Roundabouts : VicRoads
It seems that many people are unaware of the rules relating to signalling in roundabouts, particularly when leaving one.
I was booked after leaving a dual lane roundabout in FNQ soon after the National Road Rules were implemented. I entered the roundabout with the right indicator operating but did not initiate a left signal as I left. Had a heated discussion with the police officer. I argued that the intersection was only a modified cross road and in that situation all that was required was to indicate a right turn. Still got the ticket.
When my son was on L plates he was told that failure to indicate when leaving a roundabout on the licence test was instant failure.
