And so, an urban myth was born.

There is someone on this forum who has a really nice IIB 6WD set up for touring.

And this 101 is an excellent tourer as well. It's got A/C apparently.
Please, please don't put photos up like that. It's just plain mean.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

My advice on this topic, a good maintained vehicle with a minimum of electronics. In this category fall, RR, 110, Disco, 101 .....

Once on a trip in the desert of Jordan, one of the 110s we had in the group fried its electric fuel pump and cables (all the way to the steering column).
The car was driven for two days with a secured fuel container to the roof rack, directly feeding the carbs.
Once we reached the first Bedouin settlement, we sourced a used Mercedes-Benz electric fuel pump we installed and drove with the entire expedition.

This one? It is a great machine - belongs to 123rover50. Runs a V8 diesel rather than the small 6 petrol and has so many other mods done to it, you could fill a book. It is a top rig. This pic was snapped up at Glenreagh last year.

Is that 4x4 with a dummy axle? Looks like you could live in it quite comfortably. Does it have the 3.5 V8 petrol ? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Yeah! That's the one.
My only critique, the position of the air horns. They're on my good side.

If I had my time again, I would go for the OKA. I know they are overpriced for a second hand vehicle, now, but it would be my choice. Bob

I had a long chat with a fellow who ran an Oka for several years. He took it on long trips in the outback. Reckoned it was a great tourer. The Achilles heel, the axles. They often broke with the sort of driving he was doing.

At the risk of sounding like a scratched record, RFSV. Why stuff around with anything else??
Purpose built for remote touring and other stuff ;-)
Proven ability since 1991, continuously operational.
Capacity for 300lt of diesel, PAS, minimal electrics, NO electronics. 3spares wheels, heaps of storage, dual batteries, on board air, snorkel etc etc etc.
But the best one for $20k, spend another $2000 on AC and a hard top or cab and just go!
