Thread: Auspost tracking, just hopeless

In 15 years of sending Brian's Retirement Sale parcels by AP, I only ever had one go missing. This was sent from the Norman Park post office to a P.O. box in a Melbourne suburb. So, it should never have been out of the AP's hands. Never handled by a lackadaisical delivery contractor. I can only assume it was stolen by someone in the AP system. I wonder if the thief got any joy out of some special taps and dies used on pre-1930's British motor cycles. I was annoyed as was the client. Murphy's Law. These items were "specials" and had to be re-ordered and made in a tool room as one-offs.

Very, very little stuff comes through Customs in Darwin. If it's being held by Customs then it's most likely Sydney. So while your tracking has been fantastic until 18 May, now watch it fall into the Auspost darkness until it gets delivered in the 3 - 4 days or more.

Just sent my Mum a belated Mothers Day present. It arrived at her home this morning.

The parcel was delivered to her by the next door neighbour at 7.45 this morning. The tracking information had it delivered at 7.59 this morning - 14 minutes after her neighbour delivered it.

What actually happened as observed by the neighbour.

Aust Post van pulled up at 07.00 outside my mums place with the parcel (a 3kg satchel) - just left on top of the letter box out on the footpath with no attempt to deliver the parcel to the house. Also why are they delivering at 7 in the morning to a residential address - what time are they supposed to start deliveries.

The neighbour then went inside and came back out at 7.45 and noticed that my Mum had not collected the parcel and became concerned that it would be knocked off by a passer by and delivered it to my Mum - all before the tracking information had it delivered.

Lodged a complaint to Aust Post who apologised but the consultant didn't really care.

When I first started working in Western QLD we would mail our paperwork to Brisbane on a weekly basis, Amongst this was accounts to be paid.
We got so sick of the stuff either taking 2/3 weeks to get there or just disappearing into the black hole AP have, we started using TNT air bags.
Arrived in 2 days to the door.
We also had Power Cards delivered by mail, they twice lost $80000 worth of cards, don't know who paid for them but it wasn't us.


I read somewhere that in the UK they send diamonds by post, they reckon it's safe & anonymous.

They are supposed to start at 7 in the morning.
The drill is, that you start with Parcels that don't require a signature first. (so there is no knocking early on peoples' doors)
Then do all the Signed parcels.
They start at around 3 or 4 in the morning, sorting Parcels into order.

But aren't parcels that to not require signature still supposed to be given to someone at the address and if no one is home a card left.

If just left on the door step or on the letter box what security is there for the item.

The Parcel is supposed to be left somewhere "secure".
If it does fit INSIDE the Letterbox, that is fine.
A Parcel that requires NO signature, does not need to be handed to the customer.
The Contractor is to use his/her discretion as to what a secure and dry place for the Parcel would be. A note should then be left under the front door, advising customer where the Parcel is located. (where they've hidden it)

I guess that is why Aust Post loose so much stuff.
