I've found lately post from Sydney to Brisbane which was over night takes one week or more &one side of Brisbane to other side up to 4 days . 7 as for tracking numbers I have the parcel before it starts working.
Aussie Post owns Startrack and subbies a lot of their linehaul to them.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

A package I ordered a while ago for parcel post delivery just disappeared, I got a note in the mailbox from a contractor saying it had been taken to the local post office for pick up, the local post office claimed no knowledge of it, when I sent a picture of the note left Auspost said it was an older outdated form and they didn't know what had happened to it, I asked what they planned to do about it and they basically said nothing, as it wasn't insured they weren't even investigating any further. It's just gone, not stolen from my box or doorstep, lost in Australia Post, no apology no compensation no care.
Now I try and avoid Australia Post whenever I can and prefer to use couriers. If I do have to use them I make sure it is delivered to my office where I know someone will be there to recieve.
Andrew - have you formally submitted a claim. I had a couple of items go missing a while back and I submitted claims and no issues - Auspost were excellent.
My local Post Office were not interested - most these days are just franchises.

The answer as Mario and I have found is to pay the extra for "signed for" AFAIR 2.75.
It cost Mario and me $50 for 2 lost fuel filters and freight, so probably cheap insurance.
The joke was that Auspost said they had contacted the driver and he remembered leaving it at our front door, the implication being that someone stole it.
This is highly improbable, but Auspost chose to believe the courier rather than the customer. I spoke to what turned out to be the other Auspost courier for our area who came to my kitchen door. He said he would never leave stuff at the front door.

Hi we are now putting stickers on our parcel not to safe drop, that our post office guy gave us. He now tells us that they are doing away with that service because there is other service like registering the parcel. Told our post office guy why should our customers pay more when Australia post can not do there job, he agreed, he on side with customers. The stickers working at the moment as we track all our customers orders and we do see that they are going back to the post office. That's if Australia post scan there parcel which sometime they are not doing.Which make our customers going to the post office and picking them up. If Australia post did there job there wouldn't be any missing parcels. I have email them and talked to them until blue in the face. Told them that if we ran our business like they do we would be out of business. Australia post will not take side of the customer they are always right and we are wrong. This is Heather putting this up.
I will not use couriers any more unless I can get pick up from, and delivery to, a commercial address. I used to use my local LR mechanics but they have moved 25 km further away.
Couriers don't turn up when they say they will, not even the same day, so one can be waiting at home for a day or more. They don't deliver but say they have been to our home and left a card. We know they haven't. I've seen them drive straight past without stopping.

On and on .......
I have had parcels just left that were to be signed for, parcels delivered to the right number in the wrong street , and even one that they showed the (incorrect) signature for that was never delivered - we were at home all that day.
Are these all manifestations of the government's push to dismantle government departments in order to create a vulnerable workforce of contractors as a form of worship of The False God Efficiency?
Oz post now uses star track, found them to be really nice people but not very good at delivering parcels. Which I guess is the only thing they do not sure how they manage to stay in buisness.
