That is a Detroit Diesel two stroke making the noise in that Scammell. Either the Scam had too much pudden on or is geared too high if that Detroit couldn't lift it easily up that little bitty grade.

Many years ago we had a V8/92 detriot deisel as a Gen- Set in one of our trawlers, ran at 1500 RPM, when the governer failed and the engine overran, think it was doing 5000RPM when we bolted out of the engineroom and arrived on deck to see the exhaust system glowing orange, was one of the best sounds from a V8 i have heard, The BANG that followed wasnt.

In a car it would be any V8 with a good twin system exhaust. I must say the ford XR-XY 351 is a sweet sound.

I love the sound of my TD5 as it burbles away
the sound of a big steam loco such as the Gresly 4-6-2 or 2-8-2 working hard
a Deltic has a unique sound
    a JT3 on a hot summers day
    A BMW R239 pulling well

    I love aircraft noise!

I think there was too much wheel spin, couldn't get traction.

Why didn't someone shut it down using the strangler flap on top of the blower housing?

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

They PURR (very loudly of course)!

Even better for me is the sound of a steam locomotive working hard, but that's not a car.
