I wonder who is working on a vaccine for Ebola? - Would have to be an American company (or more than one), why else would the US government take out a patent on the pathogen...

Of course there must be a totally innocent, non-profit motivated reason for this.

On the other hand, who benefits from an outbreak IN the US?

Those of us more savvy might remember a news item about one of the infected US medicos flown back to the States. Apparantly he was given a dose of some un-tried 'wonder' drug when he was going downhill fast.....and it had a very positive effect.... which makes it even more oDd that he then gets carted back to a research facility on US soil.

If there is a vaccine and an outbreak occurs next town out from yours, will you take it or roll the 60-80% death rate for those infected dice?

You thought the world went silly buying up vaccines for the swine and/or bird flu "epidemics"... you ain't seen 'nuffin till you see what an Ebola outbreak can do. On US soil.

What was the final death-rate from the h1N1 pandemic ? - From 0.01% to 10% depending on where/age of patient/vested interests of reporting agency...

very few argue with Smallpox and Polio, around 5% to 35%

But Ebola, mortality at 50% to 90% is going to.......

Are we being alarmist, or panicking , over this Ebola outbreak. It was reported in the Courier mail that the thermal imaging scanners bought for the SARS outbreak, & placed in storage since, are still in storage .The report goes on to say " As part of routine procedures, incoming flights have on-board announcements, asking , I say again, asking passengers who are feeling unwell with fever chills or sweats to alert a crew member. " Am I the only one who sees a danger here, from a passenger, from some where with a grudge against Australia, being infected, & flying here. Alarmist? Did any one see 911 coming? Bob

A person not symptomatic travelling to a poorly educated unaffected area and then becomes ill, will be the start of the world pandemic.
