Hi rmp, isn’t the fact that a Landy is not a copy of anything that makes them so different.
LR are usually developers and leaders, even if every so often they don’t quite get it right, they are still a leader.
How often do hear of some new technical advance being offered on a jap 4wd first. And if they do offer some so called new feature, E.G. Toyota’s hill decent control that works in revers as well. They call theres by some other name and then say there the only one with it. And lets face it the only reason they have it set up to work in reverse is because so many Toyota drivers try to follow Landy drivers and get stuck and need to revers to get out of trouble while the Landy just keeps on keeping on.
Nearly all of the so called advances you hear about jap 4wds have been around on landies in one form or another for years before the japs have it.
Could this be one reason liking a Landy

That's a good point, and maybe that's why other people put landys down all the time. They can't face up to the fact that all the good things about their vehicle came from land rover or range rover originally.
I laugh when I think of how long it took the japs to go to coil sprung suspension, and how badly they got it wrong. Wasn't the bundera picked as the most dangerous 4WD on the road when they first put coils under it?
Something about being a big roll over risk.
Not to mention how those saharas used to wallow around on the road, sitting behind one you'd think you were following a hippo.

Without meaning to offend anyone here - there are many of us who feel if cosseted in one of those fancy Nissotas just a little bit "poofy". (Check out the latest Nissan ad ! )

A Land Rover is a real man's (and real woman's) car :!:

Alos, overall, I've seen fewer Landie owners (esp Series/Defender style vehicles) cry over a little panel damage than I have owners of fancy, curvy Jap fourbies.

Jap fourbies are TOO car-like. The pendulum of compromise has swung too far in the "road" direction.

Hmm I like that.. "The Pendulum of Compromise" © - Vlad 2004.

Sorry hiline, but I think your sister needs driving lessons! There's nothing wrong with the handling of either the Challenger or Pajero. I had a Pajero for four years before the Defender, and it was definitely a quick vehicle.

Not just driving lessons - but a balance test as well, perhaps. 8O
