Whlist LA's method is good, if you dont know all the bits, it is confusing. We did it at school and used a 1.25L soft drink bottle, a tyre valve, just cut one out of an old tube, and a cork which is a very snug fit into the soft drink bottle.

Step 1- drill a hole a little bit smaller than the valve in the cork. Fit the cork, with some araldite into the cork and allow plenty of time to set really hard.

Step 2- Dress the bottle up with a nose cone and some fins down the side. It helps to guide it straight, as said above, but most of all it makes it look cool.

Step 3- create your launch pad, a peice of would with a hole smaller than the diameter of the bottle is good, suspended above the ground on bricks

Step 4- Fill the bottle one third capacity with water and jam the cork in the bottle hard, hook up a compressor to the valve and turn it on. Stand back a wee bit, and once the pressure builds up in the bottle the cork is forced out and it takes off.

Easy.

You can also go to hobby shops and buy rocket kits. There are different size rocket engines available (they are thick cardboard tubes full of gun powder and set of via a small electric charge when two wires are touched on a 6 volt battery), the cost anywhere up to around $20 each, expensive for only 20 seconds of fun. You then buy rocket ships, which are thin tubes which you dress up, the engine fits inside it, and a little man on a parachute on the other end. Heaps of fun, but can get expensive. Matt

Hi Guys
VERY simple to make, take a 500ml bottle into bunnings or similar, get the retic isle find the plastic riser tube and a gate valve.
Sorry we dont have a digi camera so a pic isnt possible.
I will find Lindsays launcher it may still have part no stickers on it.

Ace
Lindsay made heaps of different launchers,he must have visited every water rocket website. Some were good most not realgood. The beauty of this one is the riser tube gets the bottle flying straight as the power is applied. The rocket doesnt fly around like a ballon when you let it go.PLUS you can fly it in any direction

yeah......alright..........i heard you the first time.

now it sounds simple enough.......the hardest part will be finding a bung to fit the bottle......all too easy.

Hi Tony
I just found the launcher but the stickers are worn off
The bung in the bottle rockets are quite dangerous, one of our previous launchers let a 2.25lt bottle spin round like crazy hitting a mate in the head,he got a black eye and a split eyebrow!!!!
The riser tube is quite safe.
