Does anyone ever obey the speed limit

Seem to be slowest bloke on the road at times , so I dug out the GPS to check speedo , no probs , about 99Kmh on speedo @ 100Kmh on GPS . Flog along at the speed limit and seem to holding people up or getting overtaken at most inappropriate places , also hard to negotiate in traffic as speeders gobble up clearances and distances at an alarming rate .

Seems to be all to common a comment. I remember reading pretty much word for word from the eastern side of Oz a couple months ago. At least you can't feel left out ?

Nobody does around here when in town. You'd be lucky to even get to it, moreso if you're running late!

Whats that saying, Wipers on, wipe 10kmh off. If they did that you'd be reversing every time it rained.

I'd call it an excellent revenue raising strategy. Let all the locals in an area get cocky after a few camera free months, then hit them with saturation coverage for a day. A few million bucks a day to be made as you rotate camera crews around the country.

And I'm too stingy to speed in my old age..

I endeavour to keep to the speed limit - can't afford the fines. However, I'm finding more and more cars going slower than myself, especially the ones that like to slow down 100 mtrs before a red light and then crawl the last 30-40 mtrs to the last car in the queue.

The ones that generally overtake me have P plates on.

Interestingly, I drove to Molong and back this morning, mostly along the Golden and Mitchell Hwys. Traffic was light, and I travelled mostly spot on the speed limit by GPS.

I passed two caravans and a ute, and was passed by one Audi. The only holdup I had apart from waiting for a broken line to pass the caravans, was a Countrylink bus that was ravelling at 100 (speed limited) in a 110 zone with too much oncoming traffic to pass. But when I followed it into Wellington it rapidly pulled away from me as soon as we hit the 80 zone.

Almost everyone was travelling at the speed limit.

I used to have a 30 minute commute to work, and if I sat below the speed limit, it seemed like I was zooming past so many people, where days I was running late and going above the limit more people were zooming past me than if I was going slow. Maybe you just noticed them more.

I find on the open road, people don't speed as much as they used to do twenty or so years ago, but around town they seem to speed more. Maybe they think they can get away with it, or they are busy watching the road to concentrate on the speedo and so many speed limit changes. There is a school zone on a main road next to the high school where my kids went and if you travel at 40 during school zone times people race past, then slow to about 55-60 when they see the third sign. I have even been tooted for doing 40, I pointed to the sign and the bloke shrunk down in his seat.

Next problem, who stops at stop signs? I always do and have been tooted for coming to a complete stop before moving off. Most seem to think slowing down is the same, but if a policeman was hitting you with his baton I am sure you would want him to stop, not just slow down

Since I do most my highway driving in a marked government car I stick to the speed limit most the time. I usually only find myself speeding after being stuck behind some grey nomads.
