I'm just starting to go through the process of removing a lot of "non-essential" weight from my 101 before going over a weigh bridge to minimise the license fee for its first licensing. So would the bicycle license also be based on weight, on the basis that it's a fair way of consideration for the impact on the road life and the initial cost of building the road:confused:? And would this payment of around (say) $2 per year truly shut up all the crap about bicycles needing to be licensed:confused:? No, I suspect not. Nice thought, but no - it wouldn't make much difference at all. A large number of cyclists pay to belong to organisations that represent them and provide third party cover as part of the membership (Bicycling WA, Cycling Australia, etc) so I believe cyclists would generally be happy enough to pay a bicycle license fee based on weight of the bicycle (same as everyone else) if it meant the crap would stop. But the "if" means there's no chance:(.
