My post had nothing to do with that scenario. It was about slow moving objects sitting out in normal traffic flow areas and why other roads users might be unhappy about them. If I drove my car at 20kph along a 100kph highway I'm asking for abuse. Nothing to do with cyclists at all.

The point is as a cyclist you cop the abuse regardless of where you ride on the road.

And if you were a farmer walking a tractor and implement along a local 100kph road at 20 or 30 kph that wouldn't be OK?

What about 1909 veteran car. that wouldn't be ok also?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Farmers have a rotating amber light when on the roads plus as you approach you can tell it is a tractor well in advance.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I will make the assumption you are riding recreationally, and don't need to be on that road, aren't you increasing the risk of some texting driver, or plainly in attentive , cleaning you up from either direction. You may be in the right, but also in intensive care, if your lucky.

Whatever happened to the keep as far left as possible rule?

Maybe some roads need to be marked no go for cyclists due to the conditions you describe. Same as other roads don't accommodate caravans, buses or large trucks.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Are you saying there is nothing wrong with coming around a corner at 100kph and finding something travelling very slowly in front of you? They have pilot cars and flashing lights for those situations because it's common sense to assume that circumstances dictate that sooner or later there will be the possibility of collisions. What, am I magically going to see or know about the 1909 car around the corner? It has nothing to do with someone's right to be on the road, it's a about the potential danger you are causing either to yourself or others.

A tiny minority of cyclists do the wrong thing and give cyclists generally a bad name. Unfortunately it is the actions of those few that attract attention of some motorists.

Mostly why you find most cyclists on the road too. I'd rather ride near cars than pedestrians.

I think it's been summed up here pretty well by a few. Cyclists aren't demigods or anything special, they are just normal people how enjoy a particular sport. They just want to get out and have some fun/commute to work or whatever, they aren't there trying to annoy every driver on the road just like most drivers are there just trying to get somewhere. When I'm out riding I do my best to avoid being a road hazard by staying as far clear of the vehicle lane as possible. Unfortunately this is not always possible and 'taking the lane' for a short distance is the safest way to go. I will take bets that 90% of the drivers that passed me yesterday on my 35km ride didn't even notice I was on the road, BUT unfortunately there is a handful of riders and drivers out there that aren't good road users and do the wrong thing. It's just very unfortunate that everyone gets a bad wrap out of the minorities bad manners and lack of respect for others.

Can I ask next time you see a cyclist just show them some respect, they know they are going to come off 2nd best in an accident, they want to show you respect as well.
