Or even your Granny on a bike? It would make as much sense as demanding walking pace on all foot paths, regardless of sight lines or a complete lack of pedestrians.



When I see some commenters lump all cyclists together as "window lickers" or some such trite rubbish, I don't have high hopes for their respect for me whilst on a bike. I'm perfectly aware that most people are polite and respectful in real life, I meet them on the road all the time. It's just the occasional arses that revel in seeing someone else in pain because they have "othered" them as a group. And this sort of thread seems to be click bait for them. So my apologies if I don't agree with you, these micro aggressions are what make my blood boil. Once again have a nice day.

Oh and if the mods did actually close this thread I would be quite pleased that the place was more welcoming to people who both cycle and drive Land Rovers. I really can't see the point of it staying open.

You certainly sound like someone that doesn't wear a costume to ride there bike though ........................... Buy yourself a shiny indestructibility costume and you don't need to worry about the stuff above.

That's how I've always riddne a bike too. Though I gotta admit I haven't ridden it much in recent times. I kept falling off the damn thing Obviously I was riding to fast for the conditions and found stuff like bits of concrete on the road mid-corner would catch me out at speed.

Now that I can agree with you on 100%. It has been discussed before but as no one is actually breaking any forum rules and no post has been reported so it remains open. I suppose if we all just walked away it would fizzle out, but what's the chances of that happening...

Well, We live close to the "home"of cycling in Melbourne,..Beach Road.
The general "thrust"of this thread seems to be that there are many more aggressive law flaunting motorists than there are cyclists. Not so, from what Wifey & I regularly see.
I used to be a regular bike rider, Wifey still is.
Just this week We were waiting at lights in Mordialloc which turned red facing the traffic, and a group of say 20 cyclists,.....most stopped, but around 7 or 8, just went straight through the red light,..and we see that regularly,....don't see any cars doing that.
There is also a cycle lane along Beach Road, we see cyclists regularly outside that lane, sometimes 3 abreast(2 inside, one outside the bike lane) and sometimes when there's only a single rider, that rider will be right on the white line or slightly intruding into the car lane,......whilst He has plenty of space in the bike lane.
So, I'll go against most here, because I've seen first hand & regularly, that whilst some of you riders may have your issues with car drivers, and probably quite rightly so, there are also plenty of cyclists out there that could do with looking at their own behaviour.

Nup, not in my experience.

Seen plenty of shizz over the years. Last year one was a chick going straight through a stop sign going flat strap on a very expensive road bike across me coming along a 100 kmh road and I had to very quickly work out whether to go behind her or in front. I'd already slowed to about 80 half expecting this sort of stuff with lycra armoured peletons.

Lucky, for both, I got it right and went behind. She only stopped on the wrong side of the road I was on. Quick wave and she was gone. La de dah.

Lucky for her, I am very vigilant, drive well and she lived to deny the tale. Lucky for me because I didn't have to deal with any paper work.
