    Road Rule 293(1)(b) applies.

If they got used a bit more, the debris wouldn't be there...

Obviously this is a no win for those that don't want it to be - first comes the cry 'protect us cyclists from the awful motorist' so they build bike lanes, then you get 'we can't use those, they're not good enough/too close to cars/too much crap on them/not in the right spot'... Etc, etc.

So, what is good enough for you?

Homestar, I do hope your comments are tongue in cheek (ff they are ignore the next paragraph).

If not then you need to take a damn hard look at your social interaction and grow up.

Btw, that is not a bike lane, it is the hard shoulder filling that role.

As I rider I don't want special protection, just the same basic respect shown to other road users.

Funny how you don't see cars deliberately trying to run trucks into the verge, amazing how they suddenly feel all brave when it is someone smaller than them.

Frankly badly designed "cycle lanes" are the worst outcome, annoys motorists if we don't use them / endangers us if we do.

There are idiots in all forms of transport, for the rest of us its interaction built on respect for others.

A bit more tolerance all round of different road users.

A bit more education of all road users on the importance of not being on the road in a distracted state.

'Day-dreaming' Adelaide driver who killed cyclist spared jail - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

A bit more frequent road/shared path sweeping, right up to the edge.

A bit more actual enforcement of Road Rule 293(1)(b).

A bit less lying from people like "Outraged of Adelaide" below about a single cyclist who supposedly manages to hold up 2km of traffic at walking pace, or some such rubbish, without any supporting evidence.

Oh and I run on pretty bullet proof tyres so a bit of verge debris doesn't freak me out the way a roadie would be. But I can tell you that on a typical Sunday morning ride you're doing a slalom avoiding all the smashed booze bottles from the night before. The penalty for deliberately disobeying Road Rule 293(1)(b) with smashed glass should be "lick it all up, you cretin".

Now, now, let's not get personal here, we're all adults able to have a grown up conversation without casting dispersions on those you don't know. If you have read this entire thread you would know where I sit on this whole issue - maybe you need to go and have a read up before saying things like that.

I have to admit: I use the Cycle lane 30M before turning left into my Street. BUT that is to ensure that Cycles don't come screaming down the inside and wipe out on my car.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

That is legal, I think it might be less though - 15m rings a bell.
