Les Hiddins - No Longer Contracted to LR

I noted from the latest LRE (Patrick Sutcliffe's column) that Les Hiddins (Bush Tucker Man) is no longer contracted to LR as he no longer represents LR in the 21st Century (or words to that effect).

Les probably sold more Landies than all the other LR advertising especially from his TV programmes.

A bit indicative of LR moving away from proper 4wds to the lifestyle market. It's sad to see for us old guys, but I guess they'll never make money from selling Defenders when most people want Freelanders.

I don't think targeting the lifestyle market is such a bad thing. I've always thought if Land Rover aimed the Defender at yuppies looking for that "tough image" they would have sold a lot more vehicles. Especially the D90. There is no doubt the Defender is a head turner .. more so with a bit of gear .. why not turn that into dollars. Who cares if they never take them offroad ... we will!! At least it will be another option ... Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the fact that Defenders are a rare bread on the road .. it makes my vehicle more exclusive (in a good way ) .. but if they sell more defenders it will mean better service from LRA, a better understanding of the vehicle in general, more models to pick from (110 dual cab ) more investment into aftermarket technology by ARB, Safari etc. ... which relates to a happier me. Although, I doubt it will work in Australia as Land Rover has such a tarnished named it's not even funny.

Remark I overheard when a couple was looking at my Defender in a carpark: "Look .. an old new car!"
