Spot on Henry!!!
What I think LRA are missing is that you can only trade off your 'heritage' for so long. They are burning credibility when they fail to support the foundations of the brand in the Australian market (Snowy, military, exploration etc).
I was reading the other day about Len Beadell and his old Landy. Toyota would be kill to be able to trade of this imagery. LRA ever thought about a limited edition Defender 'Beadell' which captured the spririt of those early pioneers and Landies? 8O
In any company there are sections that may need to be subsidised for the broader corporation. In my view, I would run the Defender range, if necessary at below cost, but to maintain the 'heritage' and imagery of the Land Rover brand. How many Discos/RRs/Freelanders have been sold off the reputation and mystique of the Series/110/Defenders??
With the new Defender (and the lower unit costs that come with it) you can then recoup some of the costs of the older model.
Just an idea.
