Not Yass, you were closer at Tumbarumba.
Not actually a town but I'll accept the nearest town that's about 10kms away.

I would say you are looking down from the dam wall with Tumut Power station to the left not far from Batlow

Spot on.

The structure I referred to in the bottom left of the photo is not a power station but is the outlet valves discharging into the man made channel which connects with the Tumut River downstream from the spillway. I spent a few days in that channel with artificially increasing flow rates doing a swift water boat handling course in 3 deg C water.

FYI, Ken Warby set the world water speed record of 511.13kmh (which I believe still stands) on Lake Blowering in 1978 in a boat built by himself in his backyard and powered by a jet engine bought as military surplus at an auction for only $69. I guess he must have done a bit of work on it before the record attempt.

OK, here is one, no clues yet, but I'm sure that there will be someone who doesn't need any.

I was looking at the Blowering Dam photo and thinking I know I have been there. Needed all the other clues before I finally twigged.
