Do you need to borrow the mighty Vectra again? Maybe even an upgrade to an L322 if you can put up with the squeaking the suspension makes...

IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE.....

Yep, you guessed it, all the promises made by the office boy yesterday have come to nought.

I called today requesting that a letter/email be sent to AMV approving the works as described by James (the office boy) and as authorised by Steven (business owner). Finally got to speak to Steven.

Oh NO, he said. I've only approved for them to ascertain that there is a transmission fault. If there is, I'll get the box back up here and fix it.... AGAIN. This was not to involve removing the box etc. I asked him what will happen if they are unable to ascertain the fault without removing the box? No answer.

"Ummm NO, said I. As already indicated I have no confidence in your ability to fix this problem. You have had 2 goes already and even on the last attempt, you told me that you replaced a transfer case seal and you didn't. This almost had e on the side of the road with oil ****ing out everywhere. Your team even pushed the input/output seal too far in so that it leaked as well. Why should I trust you again? And just how long will I be without my car again whilst all this ****ing around happens?"

Lots of crap from him saying that it is his right to fix it under the terms of the warranty, that James had misunderstood the instruction etc etc. In the end, he wants me to take the car to another transmission specialist, rather than AMV (who would have probably out-sourced the work) and that he would allow them to actually DO the work.

I'm sooooooo ****ing OVER this. Maybe I'll just drag the bastard through VCAT and be done with it

So can you take it to the Transmission place that AMV would have sent it to anyway?

Sorry to belabour the point, but did he provide THAT in writing? I'd just be so very careful that you make sure you're not going to be left with another large bill, and possibly your vehicle held as surety. Assuming you get it in writing, also check that the local auto shop is prepared to undertake the work on the basis of billing them for it.

IMO, take it back to the place you got the trans done. Take them for a drive, make sure they acknowledge the fault is still there. They should be allowed to rectify their mistakes. How else are the mechanics going to learn? Any decent mechanic will be annoyed that their work has failed and will want the chance to fix the problem. Whether that means them swallowing their pride and taking the car to somewhere else to get the job done is up to them and on the owner to foot the bill. Tell them you lost their confidence in person. Ask them if they are confident they can fix it, if not can you take it to land rover instead at their expense. Make sure you get it in writing.

    This is an important point.
Anybody other than the workshop you are dealing with, will hold your vehicle until the bill is paid. The secondary company has no concern who is footing the bill, only that they are not left with one.

If this mob are are as bad as they sound here, you could end up with more pain and no leg to stand on.

Written affirmation from this mob and written/ hard copy acceptance from any secondary party involved.
Check any wording carefully. Beware of "up to" "not including" statements etc.

But if it were me I'd be taking a few minutes more and putting the matter to your relevant MTA for the state.

Absolutely no ****ing way this crowd are getting near my car with a biro, let alone a spanner! Maybe you don't know the full history as others do. This is the end result of two complete rebuilds, the last one I was told 8 hours before it blew up that there was nothing wrong with it!

Apart from that, this mob is in Shepparton and I'm in Melbourne. I simply can't afford the time to get it all the way back up there and then get transport back (at my cost). I also know that this numpty will take 3 weeks to fix it just to rile me now.

I'm awaiting a letter confirming that they will be covering the bill. If I don't have it by Friday, the VCAT application goes in

Don't know, but I do know Wardy doesn't make threats like this lightly and knows what he's doing. I think the repairer in question knows too, so if he's got any brains, he'll get this sorted before it goes any further.
